I don't like y's

Post by chupon »

I don't get all the y's love on this site. I've beaten tons of RPGs, action RPGs, etc. I just don't get the y's love. I want to love it but I don't know how.

I've got the snes y's and it's pretty bad. Haven't beaten it.

I've y's 7 and oath of felgana or whatever and 1/2 on PSP. Played 6 hours of 7. Haven't opened oath.

Maybe I'm just not playing the good ones?

I think I like Falcom. I have almost every system ever made. Do I need to start with 1/2?

If you have a Wii, go download Ys Book I+II for TurboGrafx CD on the Virtual Console and play that. I've played five Ys games (1 on Master System, 1+2 on TGCD, 3 on TGCD, 3 on SNES, and Origin on Steam), and that's definitely the best one. The problem with the SNES version of 3 is that there are some bullshit difficulty spikes; it's way more playable on TGCD.

If Ys Origin doesn't convince you, nothing will.

Try Ys. It's better than y's.

I absolutely adore this series, but I guess it may not hit the right spot for everyone :?

The soundtracks are a big part of my attachment.

The Ark of Napishtim on ps2 was also really rad. The psp version had some shortcomings.

SNES one isn't bad, but those spikes can suck pretty bad as they're hard stops to level up. Thankfully(annoyingly or not) you can tape down the button and just stand in places since it will just refresh the enemy pathing every few seconds for another to not get fed up with it. I found the ghetto american look removing the japanese art the most awful thing they did to it.

The SNES game also is the odd man out, Ys3 was a side scroller and no others were. You've effectively played both of either the worst or more screwball unique titles of the franchise. As others said, get the TG16 CD(Wii Shop release is cheap) of Ys Book 1+2 or just get a .CUE file and stuff it in an emulator. If that one doesn't get you, or the very slick remaster/update up on GoG (or Steam) you just wont like the franchise.

Alright. I do have a Wii and WiiU and 3DS and basically every other system except a Twin Duo and PC Engine.

I'll start of 1/2 and give this another shot! Thanks guys!

It's not for everyone. Ys doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

First off, the SNES port of Wanderers from Ys was never good. Let's get that out of the way. I haven't played the Genesis or Turbo CD editions enough to judge.
Not only is Wanderers from Ys hands down the worst game in the series, its 2D scrolling gameplay is unique to it (any game not expressly titled Wanderers from Ys has multi-directional movement).

The more accessible era was kicked off by Ark of Napishtim. It's further refined by Oath in Felghana, which to some irony is a strong contender for greatest Ys despite being a retelling/expansion of the Wanderers from Ys story events.
Lum fan.
