Alien Hominid changed my views on the GC

Post by HeavyMetalMe »

So, I recently bought a Gamecube. When I bought it, I purchased X-Men Legends (didn't like), and the next day picked up Chaos Field (liked), and finally I picked up Paper Mario (stupid).

Let's just say, I decided that I hated the Gamecube. Most of the games I would play are still pretty expensive (Wario, Smash Bros) and the other games I was interested in were already ported to Dreamcast (I was stupid to buy Chaos Field, because a couple weeks ago I had just downloaded the shooter pack for Dreamcast that had it).

At this point, I'm about to sell it. Because Paper Mario sucks, IMO and there didn't seem to be any cheaper games that I was interested in. But, I take ol' RB's recommendation and pick up Alien Hominid. Genius.

One of the most fun games I've ever played. It reminds me of a Jhonen Vasquez comic (and no, I don't buy my hip, trendy clothes at Hot Topic).

Does anyone else love this game?

It's ok. You really should just be buying the highly rated titles before you shun an entire system.

I'd definitely dig into Paper Mario some more. It starts off slow, but gets better as you go. Also, you might want to check out...

RE4
Metroid Prime
Viewtiful Joe,
Ikaruga (if you don't have the DC version)
Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (the single player is still entertaining)
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Zelda: Wind Waker
Mario Golf

I'm not sure what your taste in games is, but those are some of the titles I enjoyed most on the Gamecube.

Alien Hominid is cool, but it's hardly genius. It's basically Metal Slug with a slightly different style. I wouldn't call something that derivative genius, but the game is lots of fun.

You don't like X-Men Legends or Paper Mario?

Odd. I'm proud to have both of them in my library

I still consider Eternal Darkness, Pikmin 2 and Resident Evil 4 to be among the finest games the system has to offer

I don't have a gamecube yet, but I was thinking of picking this up for the PS2. I had heard that people preferred it on the gamecube because of the mulitplayer allowing up for 4 people to play. Does the PS2 version also have this multi-player (except for the fact that you'd need a multi-tap)?

I'll probably get my gamecube soon since they're 30 at gamestop, but I'm going to keep looking on craigslist for a few weeks, hopefully I'll find a cube with a wavebird for under 60. Its crazy, a single wavebird with receiver goes for $50 easy on ebay and I'm sure brawl only made the prices on them worse, but considering not that many people watch the prices on ebay I should be able to get lucky on craigslist.

Oh, also, if you want a good gamecube game, get Tales of Symphonia (sp?) - I've never played the game myself, but this game destroyed my friend. He played this game for 2 weeks straight (literally from waking up to going to sleep) during which he missed a week of midterms, ultimately causing him to flunk out of university and downgrade to community college, but nonetheless he doesn't regret it. He's also said the game has multiplayer assist aspects, but I don't know the details.

Just get the cube from gamestop. Remember to demand that they let you inspect the console, cables, and controller before you pay. And the $5 1-year warrantee isn't a bad deal either.

Bleh, you'd do better picking up Skies of Arcadia Legends. TOS lost my interest quickly. SOA Legends had a lot more charm, better story and a more unique feel and atmosphere to it(the whole air pirate theme is handled so well)

Agreed. I've said it here before, Symphonia is extremely overrated. Arcadia is gold.
