Is this the HDMI thingamabob? There's quite a bit of discussion on it at AtariAge.

I don't know. I haven't seen a clear answer. The internet is hyping this up though. Whatever it is

No, that's the Retron 77 from Hyperkin.

The Atari Box is some mysterious new console and not a retro device. All we know at the moment is it's PC based. I'm guessing it's some kind of OUYA-ish micro-console most likely but we have no idea.

It's confusing because Hyperkin and Atgames are both doing HDMI capable Atari products this year.

And then there's the Atari Box - whatever that is....

Rationally I know it can't possibly be, but I will continue to hope that it's a legit new console to compete with Switch, Xbox One, and PS4 until they state otherwise.

I wonder if it is some sort of tie-in product with Blade Runner 2049.

I don't know if that's the case but it's possible the timing may not be coincidental.

More details emerge: http://mailchi.mp/ataribox/first-look-a ... 316bc4d53e

TLDR; It is basically a (relatively) inexpensive Steam Machine with some preloaded Atari games.

From the email they sent out, it sounds like an ill-conceived attempt at a fourth current console to me. $300? That's way too high. This thing is going to flop harder than the Ouya.
