PaRappa The Rappa Remastered

Post by retrosportsgamer »

Coming out Tuesday (4/4) - the first digital release I ever pre-ordered (and even applied the free theme).

I originally played the Ps1 demo from the Underground disc back in fall '97 - this one of my first PlayStation memories (and I remember completing the demo). Played the heck out of the game when it was released. Never touched the follow-ups or sequels.

Anyone else getting this?

I thought it was a bit of an odd choice to remaster, let alone give a physical release. Not that odd, given the Crash remasters coming out, but still an odd choice for a physical release, I'd think.

Certainly not as odd as the remaster and physical release of Bullet Storm though. That still boggles my mind that it actually exists O.o

Unless I'm missing something, there isn't a physical release here. Just digital.

So I got stumped at the chicken (level 4 of 6) last night. The tunes are as catchy as ever, but I need to relearn some of the tricks.

The actual gameplay screens are remastered. You watch the original ps1 videos in a boxed screen.

Punch kick its all in the mind

I played the demo several times at a friends house, never actually played the full game.

I think that level is probably the hardest in the game to be honest.

The timing in Parappa the Rapper is brutal - I can beat songs on expert in many rhythm games easier than I can beat Parappa the Rapper. It's rough.

Headed back into the Cluck Cluck Chicken's Kitchen tonight and passed it on the first try and a ton of fails a week or so ago. So that felt good, I definitely had not beaten that stage before as the rest of the game was brand new to me. I finished off stages 5 and 6 on the first try and completed the game - then went back and snagged some other trophies and started working on freestyling a bit to pump up my score. Ended up blowing away my earlier scores but still no COOL ratings yet.

Also found it interesting that when I rolled the credits it was the credits for the 2006 PSP version (a version I had heard was a really rough port lag wise). No Remastered version credits.

Damn! That PSP version is what I have. I've been meaning to give it a try sometime (like I have for the past decade or so I've owned it :P ), but now I'm feeling a bit more questionable about that decision
