SNES Emulation

Post by crackoaf »

I'm not too knowledgeable in the area of console emulation so I thought I would pose this question:

I would like to replay some of my old snes rpg's with a good old console controller. Alas, my brother absconded with my super nintendo years ago. Whats my best option? Should I try to reacquire the original hardware and software and deal with the very likely possibility that the battery saves on these things will give out soon? How feasible and easy would it be for me to emulate the whole deal on a console. Currently in my console library I have a slim ps2, and xbox, and a sega saturn. I look forward to the advice!

If you got a Dreamcast, it would make it extremely easy. For Dreamcast all you have to do to play homebrew is burn it to a CD and play. DreamSNES on the Dreamcast works very good, and I've had almost no problems with it (there is a touch of slowdown occasionally). Also, a Dreamcast is very cheap to buy.

This might be a bit hard at first but there's a noob guide if anything.

Just remember you have to get the games (roms) yourself elsewhere.
here's another link

Ok. So I need to buy a dreamcast. What other essential items should I also have? A VMU I am guessing is a definite, a controller. Will all dreamcasts be able to recognize the emulator on a cdr?

Or you could use your Xbox.... I've never owned or modded one but I hear they are very good with emulation.

I emulate almost everything on my Xbox and it runs perfectly.

I emulate:
NES
SNES
N64
SMS
Mega-drive
TG16

It is a complete snap to run. The only thing is modding an Xbox is going to be harder (or more costly if you pay someone) than just downloading and burning something for the DC. But it is better to have all your options laid out before you.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.
