Genesis 6 Button Controller games
Growing up as a kid, I never knew the Genesis had a 6 button controller. Now I know. I plan on getting a Genesis Model 1 and a Power Base Converter (Sega Cd model 2 is under debate and 32x is a no) I can guess that Street Fighter 2 uses the 6 button layout and possibly Final Fight Cd. But does any other game take advantage of the 6 button layout, or would I be fine with the original 3 button controller? (Plus a SMS controller for the few games that require it) I don't plan on picking up SF2, I'm a SF3 fan.

The Lost Vikings is a great game and pretty much requires the 6-button controller. But I also prefer it on SNES.

A definitive list needs to add Sega CD and 32X games.

Re: Genesis 6 Button Controller games
I recall the 6 button being popular for Street Fighter 2 but I never really remember anybody going mad to own one for any other reason.
Re: Genesis 6 Button Controller games
The 6 button pad is more or less essential for a select few games. I have one and just use it as my normal pad, although I had problems playing Lemmings 2 with it. I don't know if there's any documented problems with the 6 button pad having issues with some games or if it's just a weird glitch I happened to be experiencing when I tried the game?
Some 6 button games include:
Contra Hard Corps
Comix Zone
Eternal Champions
Those are the games I have that make use of it.

Re: Genesis 6 Button Controller games
That is what the mode button is for! Some games have problems with the 6-button controller, it's not just you. For such games, hold down the mode button while powering on the console. This puts the 6-button controller into 3-button mode, making it compatible with those games.Reprise wrote:I have one [6-button controller] and just use it as my normal pad, although I had problems playing Lemmings 2 with it. And from what I've read, the mode button can be used as an additional button in games. There's a few games that actually use it.
