The packaging to original XBOX games looks tacky to me
The packaging to original XBOX games looks tacky to me
I'm not questioning the merits of the XBOX itself. I kinda wanted one as a teenager and it was the start of a great console gaming brand. But the boxes to these games look so silly. The radioactive green color scheme reminds me of those Nickelodeon game shows where they'd pour green goo on people's heads. Or maybe like an energy drink that's trying waaay to hard to be EXTREME. I think the game consoles that stuck with a jet black color scheme look more classy today.

You are correct. The cases are not pretty. The games are so cheap, however, and the system received the best ports of its generation; so, I couldn't help but collect for it!

I made out like a bandit when our local FYE was closing out their stock. I got tons of great XBOX games for a few bucks a pop, brand new.
I don't hate the cases, but yeah, that color isn't the greatest. It does help them stand out, however. There's no question what system it's for, at any rate!

I think it's less the green, and more the logo, gold, etc. The 360 really used an even brighter green, but other design decisions made it look less tacky.

The Xbox family of green cases also bring to mind connotations of Mountain Dew, which leads to combining it with Doritos, and thus living that EXTREEM GAEMR LIEF BRO; that may have something to do with it.

Funny you should say that, I posted this after finding 8 original XBOX games for $1 each at a nearby thrift store. XD

It makes them super easy to identify from across the (garage sale, op-shop, etc...). Also as everyone else said already, best ports, lowest prices!
Re: The packaging to original XBOX games looks tacky to me
I like the color a lot, like others have said it does help the games stand out, and the dedication to the green-black color scheme overall shows remarkable dedication. I think PS2 game cases are so drab these days, aside from the red Greatest Hits. I always thought that the games looked the same way, so maybe it's just association bias. The Gamecube doesn't give me that vibe so there has to be something to it.
I also love colored Blu-Ray Cases and the Wii U powder blue so maybe I'm just a sucker for color cases in general.

Side note, does anyone notice that some PS2 cases have a bluish hue to them? Not the PAL cases—those are like straight blue—but I'm talking NA joints.

Far as I know all the "real" ones (for NA and JP) are actually a very dark blue, noticeable on the seams if nowhere else.
