Man, that's a good 'un. Just need to decide if this is a good time to get my 3DO working again and play that version, or just roll with Ur-Quan Masters on PC.

I'm seriously considering doing a No Starbase playthrough.

How long does it take to play through this one?

I picked it up on 3DO earlier this year, I just need to plan time to play it.

I'd say a first playthrough is probably going to be around 20 hours; the game is exploration heavy and there's a lot you can do but not much you NEED to do to reach the end.

Something that everyone should know; if you're not good at Spacewar! style combat the game does have an option to let the CPU pilot your ships. The CPU is actually quite good at it, so if you know the proper counters you can make it through the entire game that way. That's how I did my first playthrough of the game.

This is a game where the time limit imposed can seem daunting, but I assure you that you have more than enough time to complete it. Just don't leave the game running in the background while you run errands and stuff and you will be just fine!

Everyone must play this game! It is an absolutely stellar experience that stands the test of time to this day! It was picked for a reason and there could be no better game to end the year on! Play!!!!!!

So have I. I had a little experience by watching the Ancient DOS Games episode on it, which I'd highly recommend (heck, I recommend subscribing too)

Now that we have the Earth on our side, it's one big ol' open world. I too have reservations about the time limit (maybe I should go to the "dev hate" thread for that), but now I gotta figure out where to go and what to do, next. I gave my ship some valuable speed/turn upgrades first. I see that will help a lot.

The time limit is extremely generous. You'd really have to be making a point of waiting for it to tick down for it to be an issue.
