There's been a new discovery that can now get the Dual Shock 3, Dual Shock 4, Wii Remote, and Wii U Procontroller working on 35 year old video game consoles. This is an adaptation of 8bitdo's NES Retro Receiver which was released this past summer. The bluetooth controllers are very effective for playing the computer and console games of Atari, Commodore 64, Master System, and certain Genesis games (though some of the Sega games may not work). Even the 5200 games that are digital-controls-compatible can be made to work with the wireless controllers if you own one additional adapter known as the Masterplay Clone.

That's super awesome - especially the possibility of using it on Atari 5200 - but that seems like an awfully convoluted method. Hopefully someone will eventually make an adapter of some kind and just sell that.

Yeah it is convoluted, but it works and works well. I would say this will probably be the only way to ever use bluetooth controllers on real hardware from the early 80's... though playing emulators on a PC or Android system with bluetooth controllers might be equivalent for some.

Honestly, I'd jump at the chance to get an affordable aftermarket 5200 controller.

I don't really dig the thought of playing Genesis games with my Dual Shock 3, the prospect of playing Atari 5200 games with a decent controller sounds great. Bookmarked.
