How do I get better at 2d fighter?

Post by jEckt »

I'm a fan of 2d fighting galore (ever since sf2 on the good old snes)...
however how much I practice (and I have practice lots) I'm always at the losing end...

Specifically, for dreamcast's third strike... i think i have practicing on the system for a month or so... still no improvement...
Any moves I try in training averages around 65% success rate (vs computer a 50% success rate, vs human a 35% success rate); I can't even super jump (down, up) properly... although I can parry like an average player... any other move seems like button mashing for me...

I'm not even gonna talk about combos...

any other game (3d fighters, mmorpg, fps, puzzle, etc.) with enough practice I see improvement, however 2d fighters has always been a mystery...

what am I doing wrong, what should i be doing to improve?
i need money...

hmm, try using ascii fight pad, or any arcade pad. ive always found it easier playing fighters with 6 buttons right in front of me rather than 4 & 2 shoulder buttons.

I suck at 2d fighters, but im just getting into them maybe thats why. I got an arcade stick on the genesis and it feels weird using it since I didnt grow up in arcades.

I feel your pain. I've always tried to get into 2D fighters, but I am horrible at them. :(

i play somewhat better when an arcade stick is available... however why can't I perform the same (or close to it) on the basic controller when some other joe can use it?

more importantly, why do I like 2d fighter when I suck at it?
i need money...

Tip #1: Button mash your way to fame.

Tip #2: Once you feel good that you've accomplished something, learn all the moves and practice.

Tip #3: When all else fails, refer to tip #1.

This mostly works against computers...humans are smarter....supposedly....

Block, always block. It took years to break the offence only habit. Defence works.
