Genesis and Super Nintendo owners preferred music genre survey to test the theory that the Genesis/Megadrive appeals more to Heavy metal/Rock fans and SNES harks to Electronic music tastes such as dance music and hip hop.
There's no selection for "I like all music and both consoles" and whilst Racketers obviously have broad tastes this tries to avoid choosing a sub genre or simply saying "I like classical", instead it would be interesting to see the connotations each console has.

I feel like you have the consoles mixed up personally.Kaneda wrote:Genesis and Super Nintendo owners preferred music genre survey to test the theory that the Genesis/Megadrive appeals more to Heavy metal/Rock fans and SNES harks to Electronic music tastes such as dance music and hip hop.

I associate the SNES more with rocky soundtracks on games like Mega Man X and Unirally, and the Mega Drive with eloctronic soundtracks like in Streets of Rage.

I also associate the Genesis with more "electronic" music because of the harsher sound most of its game have as opposed to the smoother sound of SNES which - in my mind - better lends itself to rock. That's a very subjective view, though, so I could see it either way. Anyway, I said Genesis/Rave.

Beat me to it. I don't think of the Genesis as a 'rocker' box if we're sticking within the choice of rock and rave on this post. The Gen/MD is very harsh electronic sounding, tinny, metallic, like you'd expect with techno and stuff with a rave. The SNES if you check the games it has it has more of a smoother rock beat to it with the sampled instruments and the rest it has when you listen to its tunes. Tunes born more on the SNES and over to Gen (or gen and properly resampled on SNES) have more boom while the Gen is more muted/flat as it isn't its forte as much.alienjesus wrote: I feel like you have the consoles mixed up personally.

I'm gonna also say both.
Genesis has Toejam and Earl music.
Super Nintendo has Plok!
Both are soundtracks I wish I could own on CD.

This is another great example of how the Genesis could also easily replicate that rock guitar/synth sound combo.
(admittedly, that one's a cover...)
Anything in the Gunstar Heroes soundtrack will also work for that. The problem is that there were so many Genesis units sold with horrible sounding audio chips in then that folks don't realize how good one of the cleaner models can sound.

Perfect example of the Genesis kicking the SNES's ass at rock: MAXIMUM CARNAGE.
