As dumb luck would have it went into a goodwill today and saw (and bought) sealed cables for the GBA one being the GBA<->Gamecube cable, the other was just a GBA link cable between systems (both 1st party.)
I'm curious though about some stuff as I just don't remember anymore.
The GBA-GC cable, this works on any Gameboy Advance other than the Micro right? If I wanted to use a real Gameboy Advance (SP) as a controller and play on my GB Player I could use that?
Is the GBA to GBA cable of any use if I ran that into the GB Player or must it be only for 2P games or GBP vs GBA user?
It's clear this can't be used with the Retron5 but I wonder if my results for accuracy/comfort would improve locking a GBA itself into the system as a controller.
Gameboy Advance Link Cable / Gamecube Link Cable -GC

Yes, I have one and it fits my SP just fine. I believe it can be used as a controller on the GBP, but I used it for all the great connectivity features that GC games had, like a map on Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and Medal of Honor Rising Sun (w/MOH Infiltrator cartridge), and also useful for playing Mario Golf Toadstool Tour with your characters from Advance Tour and also receiving XP for them in that game simply by playing on the GC!

I never really used it for that stuff but barely like a couple times for the necessary stuff with Wind Waker and FF Crystal Chronicles. I never had others to do stuff with on it so I just never bothered much. By the time the Player came out I had got rid of the cable so that's why I had no idea how it worked out exactly.
I may just have to toss my game into the thing and see how it works with the cable and my SP. Maybe it will be more comfy than the GC controller or not since it's a SP, but an old GBA would work out well. Maybe keep the cable and open it, sell the gba to gba jack since I'll never use it to cover expenses.

Can confirm. This cable will allow you to use a Game Boy Advance or Advance SP as a controller for the Game Boy Player.

Cool...I may just have to rip that packaging open and give it a try. The Retron5 is ok for games but being realistic for handheld they don't look all that nice on there unless you play it in a small box. The GBP at least keeps things looking solid in its blown up space, even if it still isn't full screen it's solid.
...now if someone invented a HDMI converter for the GC.

Can't tell from the winky face whether that's a joke or not. Anyway, this link may interest you if you haven't seen it already.

Winky is me saying if something were out there stupid easy for me to approach I'd do it because the $200 cable from Nintendo for 480p can suck it.
I'd love the boost, give me yet another reason to toss the Retron5 to the curb.

You can use it for Animal Crossing to go to the Animal Island. You can also download the NES games to your GBA that you acquire normally in the game too. There's a lot of little cool utility.
Same goes for Phantasy Star Online for GC, can download the little GBA games they made available directly to the GBA's memory.

I've got no clue of the 1st party specs but my old 3rd party one of a long time ago (nyko brand) covered the L and R buttons on the SP. It would have them pressed down. It was pretty annoying. Is that the case with Nintendo's own cable?

Nope, it sits comfortably between the L and R buttons and doesnt block access to either.
