Nintendo Direct 9/1/16

Post by strangenova »

Anyone catch the direct? I didn't but I caught a recap. All 3ds stuff really, except they announced Skyward Sword coming to the eshop on wii u and they called it the "original" version. Yadda yadda speculation- HD version incoming I'm sure.

Anyways the new Zelda line amiibo look really cool, and they said that they will have functionality with Breath of the Wild. So I'll most likely get then and I want to get the Breath of the wild amiibo when they come out.

Mario Maker and Yoshi Wooly World coming to 3ds, new Pikmin 3ds game coming, showed off the next Hyrule Warriors Legends dlc, and they showed off Dragon Quest 8. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, anyways discuss!

Did they bother to talk about Dragon Quest VII? It's releasing stateside September 16th. That and SMT4:Apocalypse are the only "must buys" for my 3DS this fall.

Mario Maker and Pikmin are good fits for 3DS.

I was suuuuper hyped by this. As someone who hates getting hyped for new stuff and preorder culture, there were a good few things in this that got me excited.

That Poochy amiibo! He's like the best one EVER! Totally gonna pick him up. I'm not sure if I'll buy Woolly World again, considering I beat it like a month ago on Wii U, but that amiibo looks awesome!

It's really weird how the Mario Maker port will have NO online features O.o . Like, the online MADE that game. It'll just have 100 pre-built stages, as well as an emphasis on sharing stages locally with your friends. This is a very typically Nintendo thing where something like that might make sense in Japan, where damn near everyone has a 3DS, it's a basically pointless business model in the West. Kinda sad to see that they took that route, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that playing stages online just wasn't something feasable on the 3DS' internet/hardware. SMT really isn't my thing, but I guess it's cool to get an acknowledgement that it's coming.

Tank Troopers looks really fun as well. ESPECIALLY because it will FINALLY be a game I care about on 3DS with local download play. So many great DS games used that (Mario kart DS, Mario Party DS), but it just seems like NO 3DS games use download play. I'm totally up for some "World of Tanks"-esque action on a 3DS with my mates.

Speaking of that, Mario Party Star Rush looks hella cool. More Download play is tooootally what I'm looking for, and those new modes look really neat as well. Mario Party 9 and 10 were really fun, so I'm psyched to see what these other new modes bring to the fold.

That Ever Oasis game looks pretty neat too. I wasn't exactly sure what kind of game it was from the video, but the vibe I was getting was that it's gonna be kind of like Recettear, which I'm down with, because there ain't enough games that do that kind of thing.

New Phoenix Wright game being localized here! It's quite clearly Ace Attorney 6, even though I don't think they actually presented a title. I'm just glad to get more Ace Attorney here after not getting the one set in Feudal Japan.

Also SUPER hype for the Dragon Quest remakes/ports finally freaking coming out over here. Been waiting for those mo'fo's forEVER. And VII comes out so soon! Gonna have to set some money aside for that bad boy. That was a common theme with a lot of this stuff. So much coming out so soon! Good to get us excited about it in a window where we can still buy it, I guess.

Other than that, the other announcements were mixed feelings for me. The Streetpass Plaza thing was cool, but it was basically only for people who pay for the premium account on it, so it doesn't apply to me. The new Mario Sport Mix thing looks actually pretty good, since it's just a compilation of their other sports games more or less. Nintendo sports games are fun, even though they're not usually my thing. Side scrolling Pikmin is something I'm fairly skeptical about, but I'll wait and see how it actually turns out.

Overall, I really liked it. I know some people apparently thought it was really boring, but I was excited for more or less everything they showed.

I'm just glad we're getting another Mario Party, and nothing something stupid like a new F-Zero, Punch Out, or Advance Wars game.

I think they showed a new trailer for DQ7 Exhuminator.

I'm not sure we'll EVER see another Advance Wars game, sadly. Fire Emblem is made by more or less the same guys, and it seems that Fire Emblem wayyy outsells Advance Wars. It'd certainly be awesome to get another one, but I just can't help but be pessemistic about it :(

The Wii Punch Out!! was sooo good though. Where would they go from that installment? The core gameplay is just so simple, I'd be worried that it might fall into a Super Punchout-esque gap where it just comes off as trying too hard to be different than the original.

We've already discussed the reasons why we may not be getting a new F-Zero or Metroid in other threads, so I feel no real reason to retread that here. Though a, "Why aren't we getting another game in X-franchise?" thread might be a cool idea, come to think of it.

After the Wii U crashed and burned so hard after everything they put into it, I think this Nintendo Direct was really Nintendo just trying to play it safe until the NX launch to keep their investors happy. To be honest though, I'm kinda shocked we, once again, saw NOTHING of the NX in this Nintendo Direct. I mean, it comes out in like 6 months, yeah? I get you gotta keep people excited in the moment and don't wanna drag out the excitement too much, but maybe they're putting too much of it off until the end? I'm interested to see what other people think on why we haven't gotten any more NX news yet.

Nothing unexpected but still depressing. The U is definitely dead.

Poor WiiU. I kind of figured a while ago that it was dying off, but the Direct makes it more obvious. I can hardly think of any games coming out for it :| It's a bit funny since the Vita has way more games that I'm interested in, and it's kind of a joke that the Vita "has no games".

Anyway, from what was shown in the Direct, I wasn't interested in too much. I'm interested in SMT IV: Apocalypse and DQ VII, but I don't remember them showing off anything new about those. Even if they did, I'm trying not to get too spoiled on either. I guess I'm also interested in the Picross game, but it's digital only :| I'm planning on getting a Japanese 3DS anyway so I'll probably just import it.

Everything else I knew it wasn't for me or I didn't see enough to be interested.

On the Japanese Direct however... How come no NA announcement for Puyo Puyo Chronicle? I haven't actually played a Puyo Puyo game, but I generally like arcadey puzzle games and it looks really cute. Plus there was a new Momotaro Dentetsu game, but I'm always interested in those for no particular reason.

Is it me or has pokemon just kept getting more poke-bloated to keep just the hardcore types and brand new kids to the series sucked into it?

Very excellent, been wondering why Mario Maker wasn't on 3DS in the first place with the flopping and floundering WiiU. I could see buying that.

I have no use for Amiibo and sold mine off but 2...SMB1 8bit Mario and Megaman, I must add that 8bit Link. Also interesting they're re-releasing Animal Crossing with a new subtitle with Amiibo support and added content as well, probably a smart move there.

And damn I had no idea DQ7 was coming already so fast in 15 days. I may just have to dust off the 3DS interest, and neat with the free system theme if you preorder somewhere.

Yoshi's Wooly World looks interesting, love to see them wise up and sell out the WiiU because the 3DS is their money maker so it makes no sense to keep the few really solid games stuck only on WiiU where they started.

Ever Oasis interests me, if anything, just because of the developer pedigree being chocobo, moogles, and seiken densetsu. Also that 5 sport game Mario title looks interesting as does that Pikmin oddity being a side scroller.

You could always try Puyo Puyo Tetris! (that's on like EVERYTHING (except 360, lol ))

How are the Momotaro Densetsu games? I got the USA one thrown in with my Japanese PS2 when I bought it, but I've never tried it out.
