we're not yet 100% on moving to another country. but i have to consider what happens to the collection already. what will you do with your console and game collection ?
sell them off ? ( i could use every cent i can get).
box them up and ship them ? (very very risky, so afraid they'd just break in transit or completely lose them)
leave them to a relative ? ( and maybe see them again after a decade...or not)
take them with you when you leave! (of course not feasible due to luggage limits)
honestly im torn. i know if i do sell them, i would so regret and there's no way to get them all back as ive accumulated them over time from different locations. i mean i sold off my ps2 before and i really regretted that and at least that was one of the easier ones to recover.
one console that i think ill carry along i've decided is the wii at least as its softmod really opens it up to access tons of games and its not that big. worse comes to worse might just bring the retrofreak.
your collection, what if you're moving to another country?

Too many unknowns.
Which country to which country? Are you switching power? Will you be able to sell them for similar amounts in the new country if you choose to sell them? How large is the collection - certainly you are bringing other belongings - why not these? Etc and Etc.

There is no unknown to me. No. They go with me or they get lost in transit and I collect an insurance payoff tied to the load. Almost all I have left now I've had since the 80s and 90s and I'm the owner and that is that.

I would condense it down to stuff that Ive had forever and would be remiss to lose, then I would leave them with a relative in a corner of their attic. In plastic tubs, inside plastic tubs, tapped up all around and labeled clearly on the outside what they are in florescent orange paint. Then again, my family is very close so this would not be an imposition.

Really depends on a lot. My only experience to really draw on was the first time my family moved overseas (to Italy) when I was kid. We were told we'd have little space, so to bring as little as possible. We put a good chunk of stuff in storage, to include a lot of our toys.
Turned out, we rented a fairly large house. Moved to England from there, and again, large house. When we got back, and finally got stuff from storage...we got some of our stuff, some of someone else's stuff...I think the company had tried to auction things off? I dunno. Lots of Transformers and GI Joes I never saw again, that's what I took away from it.
Suffice to say, when we moved to Japan, we didn't put anything in storage. We sold/gave some stuff away, but brought everything with us...but we were also living on a base that time.
We had stuff get stolen out of one of our shipments before too though, so, no real guarantees I guess.
Again though, it'd really depend. If you're shipping other stuff, then shipping your collection along with it would make sense. Probably less expensive than mailing it later. Can always pay to check another bag with your most valuable stuff (I've only had thing stolen from luggage going through Atlanta). Even split stuff up, like bring discs with you and ship the cases.
If you'd be going with minimal belongings, then I'd do something similar to what fastbilly said. Leave with family, or leave in storage where close friends or family could check in on it. Not indefinitely though. I'd do that intending to figure out what to do with it once I was settled.
Main thing I wouldn't do is just leave them in storage assuming they'd be fine as long as the bill was being paid.

As others have said, depends a bit on where you are moving to and for how long. The only reason I can see for leaving them behind (in care of a trusted friend or family member) would be if it was a short-term move or I had to go to a very small apartment.

You could always rely on emulation for cart-based systems and condense your DVD/CD games from their cases into something much more compact.

Re: your collection, what if you're moving to another countr
hi guys i appreciate all the responses so far. some interesting stories.
anyway to give more details, im from Southeast Asia... and we're moving to North America. so the stuff has to fly overseas if it gets to that. its a lifetime move.
selling it off now and buying it again would definitely mean MAJOR major losses. cant buy and sell them at a similar price. there's about 16 consoles , around 300+ carts. tons of accessories like joysticks and game pads.
i would sure like to bring them all at once, but like i said there are luggage limits. so maybe having them sent over by a relative at a later time is more plausible but a higher risk of losing them i guess. we're also not moving to a big place. so damn. im really conflicted about everything.

Maybe find someone you can trust and start shipping things over when your plans have been finalized. You can pick it up when you get settled in NA. I'm sure there are a few trustworthy forum members here who wouldn't mind setting everything in a corner for awhile.
