Your Most Nostalgic Music?

Post by racketboy »

What songs do you especially enjoy from growing up or from your high-school/college years?

I've been listening to Name by Goo Goo Dolls a lot lately. I still think it sounds awesome.
Other classics from my high school years is When I Come Around and Good Riddance (my class song) by Green Day.
I also have a soft spot for To The Moon and Back and I Want You from Savage Garden.

The Beatles have been a part of my life since I discovered them back in junior high school (about 1974-75, well after they were no longer together). I have very fond memories of a lot of the music of the 1980's (when I was in college) but the band that stands out the most is The Motels. They never really hit the big time but I got to seem them live once in a very small venue (about 150 in the crowd) and they absolutely ROCKED!

The first album I ever owned?: Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (I can still sing along with most of the songs!)

Growing up i had a family friend who used to own a record store so he would give us tons of records, i got into kraftwerk when i was 10 years old and everyone wondered what the hell was wrong with me..lol. then after that it was man parish, herbie hancock and other 80's electro pop. and i can't forget disco music..lol, wow, that was crazy..But my best memories I would definitely say Metallica (masters of puppets) and Red hot chilli peppers around 85/86 in my high school years, and after that it would be your average 80's type music, from rap to pop..lol, I listened to it all, I was also into house music and breakbeats during my teens because i used to dj parties all the time. Then grunge music crept up in like 90' and i was so amazed, Even the brothas out here was feeling nirvana, and i lived in east new york, Brooklyn..lol. Good times man..

Wow -- we actually have people older than me now :)

On a side note, my parents always listened to Oldies stations when I was a kid, so most of The Beatles most popular stuff was "normal" to me. In fact, a lot of it, and other classics became a bit overplayed in my head. After college I did explore some of The Beatles' non-#1 stuff a bit and enjoyed it. (I Am The Walrus, anyone?)

I believe I'm younger than most of you (student in college) but years ago I was mostly into all that left-wing inspired punk rock racket. I'll still tune into it here and there, but most of it's dead to me. Those crazy left-wingers...

motha fuckin' Offspring

I don't what it is, but I'll never grow out of this really corny band. I'm 25 now and own every album of theirs to date. Whenever I listen to them it reminds me of middle school and just being a dingle berry in class.

Good times...

like that time my brother smashed up that woman's car for running over Jason's foot.
or the other time he beat up the security guard
and you can't forget the time we went into the One Stop in underwear on our heads and diapers on with brooms in hand playing air guitar and screaming really loud!

It turned out that the guy who managed the convenience store was a pedo, he must of liked it a lot. But like 2 months later he got arrested for raping one of the kids in our neighborhood. Poor kid... he never really recovered... and then Julian was a dick, made fun of the poor kid for it and pushed him through a window.

Americana kinda blew, though. Unfortunately.

I always dug Alice in Chains. And Pink Floyd. Hell, I still listen to both of them constantly.

Wrong-o Mary Lou. Here's a scan directly off the original vinyl record album's liner notes showing the lyrics for the song. Enjoy.
