Name a Game as Good as:

Post by LensOfTruth »

Rules are simple: One post mentions a game, the next post picks a comparable game as well as the next one to be compared.

RECOMMENDED:
- Box image(s) -- Everyone loves pretty pictures.
- Reason(s) for choices -- People may disagree with your choice. You might as well make your case.
- Chill -- Choices don't have to be 1:1. Just have fun with this.

EXAMPLE:
Image
Super Mario 64
Among the best 3D Platformers of all time. Mario's transition from 2D into 3D with generally-positive results. (Check out the Unpopular Opinions thread.)

Image
Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
Combines some of SM64's ideas with excellent art and animation. Clever programming tricks too. (Gotta hide those loading sequences.)

LET'S DO THIS:
Image
Cave Story (Original)
Indie masterpiece. Metroid and Mega Man elements mixed with interesting story progression.

Freedom Planet
A masterpiece (IMO) of indie platforming. It mixes Sonic's speedy platforming with a slower pace to allow for some better beat-em-up action.

(Did I do that right? Do we compare a game to Freedom Planet, or do I post another game after that? I has a confuse.)

Excellent Metroid-style platformer with loads of style and a great combat system.

Yeah, after you choose the comparison game, you can start a new round. Otherwise, I think we'd always be stuck comparing indie action/adventure platformers.

I haven't played Guacamelee, so I'll leave it to someone else.

So technically, should it be the person that posts the answer to the game in question that starts the new round? Or does that even matter?

Well, we screwed this up first thing. Let's let Sarge pick a game to compare since he posted Guacamelee.

Okay, I'll get this back on track. Let's go slightly more obscure and go with...

Image

Another indie Metroidvania, and a good'un. It's also really hard, but that's part of the charm! It's more forgiving than the original release, lives are not as big a deal anymore. I definitely enjoyed it as much as Guacamelee.

And the next game to compare to is a doozy. In other words, in my mind there's nothing comparable, but I'm curious to see what folks think is at its level.

Of course I'm talking about...

Image

It's only the greatest JRPG of all time. No pressure. ;)

OK, if Chrono Trigger is the best RPG of all time, then it's as good as the best "not really an RPG" of all time.
