RGB N64

Post by Smacks170 »

I'm looking to RGB mod my N64 and I have no experience in modding. Can someone recommend me to a place for a good but cheap console mod?

FYI, that HDMI N64 mod is coming out soon and looks fantastic. I don't know your specific setup, but it may be worth waiting for. If you're looking to use a PVM or something, then this wont help. But if you're looking to use an HDTV, this might be better than using analog RGB...

I didn't watch the YouTube video, but that's apparently an interview with the guy that made it (Marshall). I saw a YouTube video that showed details of the product, but I can't seem to find it now.

Everything I've heard about it sounds fantastic. I currently have an RGB modified N64 that I use with an XRGB Framemeister, and I'm still considering getting the UltraHDMI when it's available.

UltraHDMI is out now. I have one in my possession, modded for both HDMI and RGB so no matter what I want to use it's best case scenario.

And it's glorious.

Now I just need to get my hands on a HiDefNES.

Guy on the Neo Geo forums had two, and happened to be local to me. Apparently Marshall will sell them in minimum 3s (so he kept one for himself) if you email him - marks you as at least a small time "reseller" seeing how the install is going to be.

$15 and VERY easy to install (however, I had to fix that guy's soldering job. )

The THS7314 amp will work fine, but I was never a fan of that method. That second eBay link looks awesome though, and the install process would be cake.

This is the RGB mod I use for my N64 (which I might eventually replace with the Ultra HDMI if it's not too expensive). The only catch is you need to make sure you're using an RGB cable without any resistors or caps in it. And the components count is much higher than the THS amp, which is probably a big reason why so many people tend to use the THS over the NJM.

Why's that? I've modded a bunch of N64s using the THS7314 and never had any issues with it.
