Alternate Reality The City and Dungeon, Any Fans?

Post by ExUSMC »

I have been playing Alternate Reality: The Dungeon on and off for a good 20 years (can't count how many times I have started a new character). Recently I found an old game save from probably a decade ago and fired it up and realized I somehow developed a quite powerful character. It got me to playing again after discovering maps online and copies of the manual (that was one of the coolest back in the day).

For those that don't know, Alternate Reality is a dungeon crawler that will eat your lunch without flinching about it. It is grid based and enemies are invisible until you encounter them. There are four levels in The Dungeon, each half the size of the one above and each having tougher monsters to deal with adding insult to injury.

Any other fans of this series?

I have played AR City a few times, I never knew about the Dungeon. It is a tough game. One of my cousins owned City and for years I had forgotten the name of it (erroneously believing it was Elder Scrolls Arena). He was good at it, but my young mind just could not understand the reasoning required to play the game competently.

I wish GOG would get these games now, I would gladly play them as an adult.
