Any Android Tablet Gamepad Recommendations?

Post by shwisha »

I just ordered a Amazon Kindle 7" android tablet. Was wondering if anyone has used any tablet gamepads they'd suggest (like this) or if you have a Amazon Kindle do you have any emulation suggestions?

I've got a nice one the steel series free mobile bluetooth controller that works on pretty much any bluetooth device from android, apple, pc, random stuff. It's a little smaller than your normal console game pad, but not crampy small. Very good array of buttons, comfy sticks, nothing feels cheap or bad about it. The only bad is they can be expensive unless you shop it a bit and find a deal like I did.

I know a year ago they retailed for like $60 which was garbage, but now you could find it around the $25-30 mark from some random people. Steelseries stopped making them I believe to go with full size controllers, so maybe that's why they retain the value at some online spots.

If you don't mind some random bs site to trust a bit to, this spot has it for $24 and in stock.

I would suggest avoiding the MOGA controller, I had one and sold it off after buying this one. MOGA gets bitchy about using itself on mode B for 'HID controller' and quite a few things will struggle to pull it up. Most mobile developers seem not to want to make games for it so it's an issue, though those who did make it MOGA supported they're alright too. The steelseries doesn't play screwy games with special support, it just works.

Amazon's own Fire Game Controller isn't bad either. Works well on my Amazon tablets and my Fire TV stick. Very comfortable too, design resembles a modern controller.

EDIT: I see it's out of stock and there's also a 2nd generation version out now that's only going to be compatible with their new Fire TV device. Maybe if you can find one elsewhere?

I haven't been able to try this yet but here's a guide on how to get the Google Play store on Fire OS: http://www.howtogeek.com/232726/how-to- ... re-tablet/

Wow harsh is the Fire Tablet locked so you can't even side load google play on there?

My nexus 7 I had and now my Nvidia Shield tablet both allow Amazon store to be side loaded just through temporarily lowering the security block on installing junk.

The Amazon Tablets are technically ran on "Fire OS" which is just their flavor of android and they only include the Amazon store for obvious reasons but from what I read you can get the store on there with a little work and no jailbreaking.

My 2nd gen Fire can't do it. I managed to get the Play store on my new 5th gen Fire no problem using that linked method about a month ago, since their new Fire OS 5 is very similar in look and code to stock Android 5 now. Loaded up on a bunch of a good apps you'll never see on Amazon, including the handy VGPC app that scans game box barcodes.

I hear nothing but good reviews for the 8bitdo controllers. They seem perfect for retro-gamers like us, but I haven't bought one yet because they are out of my price range.

SteelSeries & PS3 Sixaxis.
Previously only wired PS2 controllers and before that, a bunch of not-so-good BT controllers. The button mapping and analog incompatibility required extensive support programs with multiple BluezIME and keyboard profiles to support all the games and emulators. Granted, that was quite a while ago, but it was painful. I haven't had many problems with the above controllers, tho my phone's rooted to 4.2.2 and the emulators have updated a lot...

My brother got my hand-me-downs, and with the latest android phone he upgraded to, he's still got problems. I think he's got a really old Ipega, Moga, and some other unnamed chinese controller. They are universally incompatible, tho one can usually be made to work :?
