Magazine Archives on CD-rom.

Post by clintnfg »

I work at a music store, and during my downtime I read music magazines(guitar-world, Modern Drummer, Total Guitar, etc. etc.)
in last months issue of modern drummer there was an advertisement for a Modern Drummer CD-ROM containing EVERY issue of their magazine for 129.99. Basically I was like 'This is awesome!". Now if only Gamepro, Nintendo Power and EGM would follow suit. Instead of having quasi-legal Scans floating around on the internet, why don't these companies cash in, and make the gamers happy.
Dang, I hope this happens. Lets start sending those emails!

I prefer the New Yorker's harddrive containing all back issues... but that's just me.

It's a lot like bound journals. I work in my university's library and have shelved some of these magazines on cd. It's a lot more convenient than toting a couple hundred pounds of paper, but it's a lot easier to damage. I mean, if you drop a bound journal, it's still cool, but you can scratch the disc fairly easily. Also, it's all on that one or few disks, where as if you damaged a single volume in print, you'd still have the rest, but the disc being ruined would mean the loss of all the volumes.

It would still be sweet and probably a lot cheaper to get than back issues. I'm sure there's interest. I just don't know how well those do...

A lot of magazines have already started this. Also, there is a company that has put out collections of a number of comic books on DVD. They include Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, etc. The same company also puts out archives of Mad Magazine and most recently National Lampoon.
