We need 2 CD Players for the house. I haven't purchased a music player of any sort in at least 15 years. What's what for CD players? I suppose like MP3 plug-in options would be cool, but good radio and CD player are priorities.
No real price range - I imagine over $25 and under $200 is where they run for something aesthetically pleasing, well built, and good performance.

Re: CD Player Recommendations
Cant really find much anymore in retail stores.
Try online.
There can be a big price difference in these stereos if you just want it to play music cds, or if you want it to do more.
Some cost more because they can still play cassette tapes. Do you still have some of them?
Others come with special docks for your apple products. Some have covers and others stick out if the stereo like a sore thumb.
So check out those little details as you look for them.

Yeah, i'm hoping someone has one that they're happy with and is still being made. I don't want to go by online reviews unless I have to.
I don't have any cassette tapes.
My daughter has an MP3 player, so if it had an MP3 dock or whatever it's called, that'd be cool, but not a must and not worth $40+ (i'd pay $20-30 additional for that functionality).

Technics!!!! Built to fucking rock and last a long time. Affordable too. I have had my current CD player and Receiver for the last 17 years. Bought new for around $250 for both.
You can plug any mp3 player or phone into ANY old receiver if you want too.
My mom also had a Technics CD player in the 80's. Paired it up with some Cerwin Vegas!!!!

For vehicles, you're almost always better to choose Alpine. I don't know about for a house. I always just use the computers piped through to the AV receivers using digital connections.

Re: CD Player Recommendations
I *think* Mike prob wants a simple all-in-one solution rather than build up components. Not putting words in his mouth, but guessing from OP?

Yes. I'm thinking relatively small footprint (as small as can be but still get decent volume).
One piece (...the...unit?)
One cord (power).
A button to push (open CD tray).
"maybe" a MP3 "port" if we ever go that route (dunno how these work really).
Right now all we have is an audiovox cd player, size of a basketball, $15 at Target 15 years ago.
Those technics looked cool, but all the ones on amazon are used AND pricey...I don't mind $150-200, but it needs to be new.

Little boomboxes like that are okay for the kiddies. Or at least a portable one to carry into other rooms around the house.TSTR wrote:
You need to see how big of a stereo you want too. If its going to be in the living room or den or somewhere else.
There are obviously stereos that can take multiple cds. Some have a spinning tray and others have multiple opening trays.
Some big beefy stereos can take multiple speakers. For that extra bass pleasure.
Also Like I kinda said earlier, some have ports for MP3 players. Some are just an audio jack while others have the whole IPOD dock built in somewhere.
The Audio jack in the front is okay, but there are some stereo's that have a port in the back. That's a lot nicer sometimes.
Because it gets a bit annoying having just one plug in the front. I have a turntable so I can listen to my LP records with the stereo speakers. But the set up gets a little bad.
My turntable has that white and red plug audio jack, and then I have to put an adapter to plug it in to the phono (headphone) jack. It looks a little ugly how I have it set up.
That's why if you ever plan on using or connecting more things to the stereo you get. Check that it has plugs in the back to take it.
Plus, if you want, you can use that set up with the stereo speakers to make a bit of surround sound for some old school gaming too.
If its got headphone jacks, you can hook up a model 1 sega to it.
