Atari Landfill games selling for stupid amounts
Saw this story recently on my local news. They have already sold more than $105,000 worth. Pretty crazy. Here's a article.

Here's one on ebay.

500 of the excavated games will be going to museums so I guess that's good. If anything though I think the price of 2600 games are rising after this. Hell, I don't even see a buy-it now of E.T. for cheaper than $12.

Re: Atari Landfill games selling for stupid amounts
Let's run the numbers.
one game sold for $1535, so subtract that from the grand total of $108000 makes it $9265.
divide that by the total of games (minus the one sold at $1535) and you have 9265/880 which equals roughly $10.53 per game, which isn't bad considering that it is part of an urban legend proven true. I am sure that the E.T. cartridges went for more though for sure.

You know, I always wanted one of those burried E.T. carts. Since I owned and hated the original my parents bought I don't think I'll be buying one that stinks of cabbage.

Can I buy an old boxed Atari game, smash the box, bury it in the dirt and then sell it on eBay for obscene amounts of cash saying it's from the landfill?

Good idea. I'm going to start buying every cheap Genesis sports game I find in thrift stores, bury them for a year or two, then sell them for $100 each.dogman91 wrote:Can I buy an old boxed Atari game, smash the box, bury it in the dirt and then sell it on eBay for obscene amounts of cash saying it's from the landfill?

I thought all the games found were well documented and certified, I don't think it's too wild of an idea people would pay high prices for a legend that has been proven to be true, kinda made history there and that's where the value is coming from.dogman91 wrote:Can I buy an old boxed Atari game, smash the box, bury it in the dirt and then sell it on eBay for obscene amounts of cash saying it's from the landfill?
Atari's Howard Warshaw is the man love that programmer, his side of the story blew my mind in the movie. His style of programming is equivalent to a rock star musician, lol.
If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

I don't need one of these. My parents still have one bought in a proper store. Mine escaped the landfill! But boy did it suck...
