PS1 Import Game Recommendations!
PS1 Import Game Recommendations!
My girlfriend recently found an old PS1 she gave me. I ordered PS x Change Version 2 so I can play imports on it. My question is, what recommendations do you all have? RPGs are my favorite genre, but I'll play nearly anything. The only game I know of that I HAD to get was Tobal No 2.
Huge RPG fan.

If you're into shmups, there's so many it will make your head spin.
Hermie Hopperhead is a fun little platformer.

I had fantastic fun playing Vib Ribbon at an expo a few years ago, enough that I got myself a copy of it... but it's a rhythm game, so it may not be your cup of tea.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed

Man, that's a big question. There are tons of excellent imports of PS1. On the shmups side there's Gradius Gaiden, Dodonpachi, Harmful Park...from racing games Side By Side Special 2000 and Touge Max G...platformers like The Adventure of Little Ralph. Without narrowing it down a bit it's gonna be a long list.

Ghegs, that's becoming quickly apparent, lol. RPGs, strategy games, and survival horror are my favorites.
Huge RPG fan.

I'm not going to recommend any import JRPGs unless you can read Japanese.KoLAddict wrote:RPGs, strategy games, and survival horror are my favorites.
As for import strategy games, I absolutely recommend this one:
Survival horror imports? These PAL region ones will do you nicely:

A few other imports that you should get if you love yourself:
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

if you like the Fire Emblem games you should get this game. Some of the developers of the Super Famicom Fire Emblem games left Nintendo and made a new game named Tear Ring Saga. It was so much like Fire Emblem that Nintendo sued them and won.

For horror:
The Note
For shmups:
Bokan to Ippatsu! Doronbo: Time Bokan Shirizu - based on the Tatsunoko Anime.
For beating the stupid USA price:
Team Buddies - No Japanese release, but the PAL one is cheap.
Edit:
Two others that I recently found out about:
Puchi Carat - Puzzle Bobble meets Arkanoid
Landmaker - Money Idol Exchange meets Rampart? It is really hard to explain
