Wolverine from X-Men should have died at a young age

Post by DeadPark »

This is an idea that has been in my head every now and then for quite a while. just wondering what everyone else thinks

warning, science ahead

wolverine as well as pretty much every other superhero with healing powers can heal quickly because their cells replicate faster than normal. the problem is that cells in the real world can't replicate infinitely. the DNA in the cell is copied each time it replicates. but there is garbage information at the tail ends of the DNA strands that get cut off piece by piece every time it replicates. eventually there isn't any more garbage information and it starts cutting into the good actual DNA information. this is what causes a lot of problems when you get older and is basically WHY people die of old age. (overly simplified)

what i'm getting at is that if wolverine's cells were replicating more often than normal to give him his healing factor, they would also be chopping off that garbage information faster, leading to a early, very young death.

I know superhero logic doesn't really work the same as real logic, but what do you think about my idea?

You should get a PS2, paint it white and stencil PS2 on it. Or a marijuana leaf. Up to you.

He's a mutant. Not only were his cells replicating faster, but without any decay. Problem solved. :P

Thank you DeadPark, as your post makes many of mine seem more credible.

Fun Fact: My dad named me Logan because Wolverine was his favorite superhero.

Not-so-fun fact: I don't like Wolverine that much, or even the X-Men as a whole. The whole concept doesn't make sense to me. I get that mutants are supposed to represent oppressed minorities and all that, but it's not like gay people uncontrollably shoot lasers from their eyes. The fact that they have such destructive powers that so many of them either can't control or use for evil makes me root for the anti-mutant people.
Insert clever quote here.
