So there's been a bit of drama over at Reddit.com
I don't know how many users here use reddit, but its gone bonkers over there. The admins there banned /r/fatpeoplehate /r/neofags and two other subs I can't remember. People got mad, as the admins used a lame excuse to ban the subs (blaming it on the subs allowing brigades, which isn't true). People complained as subs like shitredditsays, subredditdrama, coontown, etc. were still allowed. People then made more fatpeoplehate subs like fatpeoplehate2 or obesedislike, which have since been banned.

I'm occasionally on reddit. only for reading purposes.
I dont even have a user name there. I just read the mainstream articles or other articles linked to their from a story I read elswere.
More of a 4chan guy myself.
But I take, it was a bigger deal for you eh? Did you or an internet acquaintance get the boot?
Such is the drama and tribulation that is voicing your opinion on the internet.

I wasn't banned, FPH wasn't my cup of tea. I do browse subredditcancer and KotakuinAction though, which apparently means I got autobanned from lots of subs.

I was thinking the same thing.Purkeynator wrote:I must be getting old. I don't understand a damn thing you wrote.
I think fat people did something to reddit? I dunno.

Reddit mods have proven to be piles of crap a lot more than once. I can understand being mad, but this doesn't surprise me at all. It's like being mad that the dog chewed up the sofa for the 15th time in a row. It doesn't suck any less, but you can only get pissed so much.

I always assumed reddit was 4chan with the ability to create as many subboards as you wanted.

Also more arbitrary moderation, and the vote system rewards memes, lame jokes, and movie references more than actual discussion.MrPopo wrote:I always assumed reddit was 4chan with the ability to create as many subboards as you wanted.
I prefer 4chan. At least over there, discussion and shitposting are on equal footing. Plus on 4chan you can say whatever you want without getting banned, to a greater extent than on Reddit anyhow. 4chan creates more user content as well, such as "best of" charts and whatnot. Along with elaborately retarded memes, of course.
I'll give Reddit this: they function well as a Digg successor. Even if the discussions suck, I've found a lot of good links over there.

Re: So there's been a bit of drama over at Reddit.com
I've been on Reddit for many years, basically since its inception. What is going on is the place has become massively popular and the mods are afraid of losing vast swaths of readers due to sub-reddits with questionable ethics. So they'd rather piss off the niche users of those sub-reddits and close them down, than piss off much larger groups of offended readers. Of course this is bullshit and not okay, and goes against the spirit of what Reddit was supposed to be in the first place. But hive mind censorship is a thing, and Reddit's glory days are behind it now.
Once upon a time Digg was the place to be, then Reddit, and now something else will take its place. Tis the cycle of the internet.
I don't think 4chan and Reddit are really analogs for one another, they were created with different base concepts in mind. 4chan was always about sharing images and trolling, Reddit was about posting links and facilitating serious discussion about those links' content.
