Sega Saturn Modchip Video Interference

Post by jbltecnicspro »

Hi,

A week ago, I got my modchip for my Model 2 32-pin Saturn. I taped (I don't have a soldering iron yet) the power wire to the power supply, and I looped the signal wire to do the A+B method. Now, the system works just fine, and games boot up without fail. However, I noticed that when my modchip is installed, the video signal gets "warpy," and loses fidelity. It's not bad, but it's definitely noticeable, and it's quite annoying. Now, as soon as I disconnect the wire loop, the signal gets clearer. I plug the loop back in, and the signal gets worse. Also , I moved the signal wire to the 32-pin chip, and same thing - the video signal degrades. I'm using a Saturn RF adapter. I was wondering, would a stereo AV cable help the solution, or is my problem likely internal? Thanks for everything - other than this minor annoyance, my chip works as advertised. :)

EDIT: I should note that channel 4 looks worse than channel 3, so I leave it on channel 3 most of the time, leading me to suspect the RF cable is the culprit, or that the modchip is producing some interference (I hope not!).

Hey, sorry to resurrect an old thread:

I got the composite cable last week, and it makes a huge difference in quality! No more interference. So, if you guys are modding your Saturns, don't do it with an RF cable. It seems the extra signal that the chip generates interferes with the RF adapter's signal. I also recommend Racketboy as a distributor of chips and products, he got my stuff to me in a timely manner in great condition. Thanks Racketboy! I'm enjoying my Saturn without worries of damaging my original games. :)
