The end of PC gaming

Post by marurun »

So, we've been hearing folks talk about the end of PC gaming for a couple decades now at least. It seems the time has finally come that the doomsayers are right.

Candy Crush Saga will be pre-installed on Windows 10.

But why is this a problem or even relevant? Windows has always come with bundled games, some of which originally appeared on other platforms (like Chip's Challenge, which I adore).

Does Candy Crush have a negative reputation?

I just looked in my Games folder. Apparently 7 comes with something called Purble Place. Huh.

Haha yeah. That's a fun game, actually.

My wife's laptop game pre-installed with a WoW trial.

It's a joke. But yes, Candy Crush Saga is one of those freemium browser/mobile games where you can play for free, but you have limited failures and have to wait for your retries to recharge on a timer. And some of the levels are deliberately nearly impossible, meaning you have to replay them dozens upon dozens of times or pray for luck, or spend money to get power ups and extend your turns remaining. King has made money hand over fist off the game.

Not to mention they just ripped off another game and tried suing them later.

Yeah it's well knowing King is disgusting and crooks, but they're crooks with a ton of cash to use lawyers to pull that stunt in the link above. It's sad but nothing new. Back on Win95 there was that Space Cadet Pinball which I think came originally from Maxis part of a package of tables. MS started including stuff I think that far back from other companies.

Well, all the match-3 games are essentially rip-offs of Panel de Pon's take on tile games.

Columns was 5 years before Panel de Pon. And I'm not even sure that would be the first match-three game.
