Best current gen Musou game?

Post by kelsoanim »

So, I want to get a new Musou game. I don't have any for current gen consoles and I'm racking my brain to decide on which one to get. They all seem to have different things going for them. I'm trying to decide between Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, Samurai Warriros 4, Dynasty Warriors 8 Extrme Legends and Hyrule Warriors. I've only played the Dynasty and Samurai Warrior games in the past, as well as the first Ninety Nine Nights. Which of the 4 out for current gen is your favorite and why?

Musou games are at a quality high right now, so it's hard to say. Of the ones you mentioned, Hyrule Warriors is a more unique take on the formula in that it incorporates so many Zelda game mechanics. It also has excellent, meaningful DLC as opposed to just frivolous fluff like stupid extra outfits. SW 4 is maybe more accessible, flashier and faster paced. DW 8 EL is probably the most polished musou game overall. WO3 is okay, but most of your enjoyment will come from the rather awesome roster of characters than the game itself. It's the most fan servicey game of the four, but beyond that probably the weakest game. It's hard not to get excited about a game where you can pair up Achilles, Joan of Arc, and Ryu Hyabusa though. One interesting note too, is that WO3 on PS3 supports 3D. I don't know if any other musou game out there does.

I'd maybe say go with HW first, it's just the most fresh take on the formula at the moment.

Thanks for the thoughts Gamerforlife. I went ahead and ordered Hyrule Warriors. Part of me was worried it was simplified as a Nintendo game but after watching some footage it still seems to have all the ingredients, plus I like the art style and all the attacks seem varied and over the top. Looking forward to summoning the Majora's Mask moon down on a field full of Stalfos. :)

Dragon Quest Heroes also looks fantastic. I really hope they bring it over here like it is rumored. It looks great and seems to add it's own flavor to the mix.
