What I did was I mounted a surge protector in the cabinet for power, and mounted 2 (4X) system selectors to handle the switching of signals. I ran all the wires in the cabinet except for the one power cord leaving the cabinet and the wiring to the system selectors that sit on top the cabinet. I have hidden the Selector switches behind my center channel speaker on the top of the cabinet. So you can easily switch between systems, but don't have to see them. I then have one set of Composite cables (R/Y/W) and one set of S-Video cables running from the switches to my AV components in my closet. So what I am left with is a cabinet that can hook 8 different systems and have the appearance of a standard piece of furniture. I currently have my NES, SNES, N64, Jaguar, 3DO, Genesis/SEGA CD, and Saturn in there. My only gripe so far is I can't fit the 32x on top my genesis with out pulling it out of the cabinet and that my Dreamcast won't fit on the bottom shelf next to my Genesis. But if I want to I can plug the system into the empty system selector slot and place it on top while I am playing. There is enough room for at least one controller for each system in the cabinet, I have all other accessories and games either in the closet on shelves or in pull out bins under the couch. You can easily change out cartridges for the top loading systems. Also there is enough slack on the wiring if you want to pull the systems out and place them on a coffee table while you play or something like that.
I still have a ton more to do, but at least I can take a break and play some Sonic if I need too. Let me know what you think:
