RGB SCART to Hdmi
Hello, a common subject I search online, however no answers for my question. How do I know the SCART cable I am purchasing for any system (Genesis, SNES, Saturn, etc,) is meant for an American NTSC console, as with the SCART to Hdmi adapter, how will I know it will accept an NTSC Scart? In other words, I dont want to spend money on a scart cable for my Genesis and later find out it was meant for a PAL megadrive, along with the Adapter being meant for PAL.

Re: RGB SCART to Hdmi
Correct me if I'm wrong, but SCART is technically PAL/EU by default (though in most cases the cable will work just fine for an NTSC-U console)... The JP (NTSC-J) standard looks like SCART and is often called "JP SCART" but is technically something different, JP21 or something I think is the official term?
I'm not sure there's any way to know by looking at it, you need to either be told by the seller or test it with a multimeter.

Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

I purchased mine from http://www.consolegoods.co.uk/
They say flat-out if it'll work with US consoles.

Pretty much, doesn't really matter for console versions with the same A/V pinout.KalessinDB wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but SCART is technically PAL/EU by default (though in most cases the cable will work just fine for an NTSC-U console)... In practice EU cables are more common than JP21 in the US though.
Lum fan.

Yes, there is a difference between JP21 and SCART cables. Even though they're identical connectors, they're wired different (you can convert one to the other if you know how to solder).
Aside from that, some consoles will vary between regions. Take the SNES, for example. The PAL SCART cables have 75ohm resistors, while the NTSC cable has 220 Ohm capacitors. For this reason, you can not use a PAL SCART RGB cable on an NTSC SNES/SFC, and vise versa.
For these reasons, there is 'no one size fits all' answer. To insure you get the correct cables, your best bet is to ask what you need for each console. Specify your exact set up (monitors, adapters, transcoders, etc) and the region of the console you want a cable for.
