Hey all, new here but I thought some of you might find this project at least amusing, and I'm trying to get a little more involved in the community.
I'm a fairly new collector, only been actively doing it for the last year or so. I decided, now that I have kids of my own, I would start buying back my childhood so I could pass that along to them.
Unfortunately, I have this horrible tendency to obtain a game, put it on the shelf, then leave it there forever. In order to combat this, and to get out of a bit of a gaming rut I've been in for the last few... years... I've decided to start a new project!

I'm using the GamesRadar top 50 games list for each console starting with the NES and ending with the PS2/GC/Xbox era. More details and guidelines for the challenge here: http://600games.wordpress.com/rules-of-the-challenge/
My friends are already taking bets on when I'll get bored and quit, but I fully intend to see this through, despite being at least two years older when I'm through...
Anyway, I'm excited to take this on, and I thought some other people might find it somewhat interesting so I thought I'd share. I try to update every night.

Welcome to racketboy!
I like the way your reviews start with your expectations going into the game. I've never seen anybody use that consistently before. It's a nice touch to see how games either do or do not live up to their expectations. It's also funny to see how you can be so wrong in terms of what you expect of old games you know little about. Keep up the good work and good luck with your 600 games.

Thanks for the support!
Yeah, it was really important for me not to try and come off as Random Game Review Blog #9001, and rather to convey the experience of playing these old classics either for the first time in 20 years, or the first time ever. The scores are more or less purely for my benefit as they're not even a little objective. It has been a lot of fun seeing how games play out versus how I imagined they would. Faxanadu is still my shining example of that, so much fun.
I thought about going more professional, buying a PVR and making videos and "proper" screenshots, but I think part of me wanted to have some evidence that I'm actually playing these games.

Re: 600 Games!
Nice, I just read though all your posts so far and it's all written very well
(and pretty entertaining for the games you didn't like so much haha)
I actually thought about doing something similar, but my spending money comes in very rarely so I probably would only be able to do a few games and then nothing for months. I don't own a lot of classics yet either, so I would need to buy most of the games on those kinds of lists haha (plus my writing skills aren't that great anyway ><). But maybe in the future.
Either way, I can't wait to read your future posts
