So I was planning a visit to an arcade with a group of friends next month that I havent been to in 10 years.
I'm excited and a bit nervous that its not going to be the same place I remember... it has been 10 years and the arcade scene isn't really the vibrant industry it once was.
Eitherway, it was a cool place, just outside chicago... it use to be called Super Just Games [now called Nickel City]. You payed 2 bucks to get in and they had a good selection of the current games of the time. What set the place apart was it wasnt one of those open your wallet and grab your ankles kinda places. Games didnt take quarters, instead you payed the nickel equivalent... oh and if it was an old/vintage game, it was straight up free [had ~50 old school cabnets from your moonpatrol to super offroad to your 16bit era arcade stuff and neo-geo].
no point to this post, just wanted to throw that out there.

I have a gameworks right by my place. I'll go in there occasionally to grab a beer but thats about it. And apart from an occasion stab at initial D, very very little of interest to me there. I like my vintage games and I dont like having to drop 30 bucks to get my donkey kong fix.

If racket is planning a meet-up in the Chicago area this may be the place to go.mrgoodbytes wrote:So I was planning a visit to an arcade with a group of friends next month that I havent been to in 10 years.

There is a place like that in Omaha, NE too. It's called The Family Fun Center. However, everything takes tokens which are equal to quarters. Most of the machines just take 1, but some of the newer games take 2. I haven't been there is about 4 years so who knows what it's like now....

Hopefully they have some new machines... arcades (the few of them left) around here havn't changed or added new machines in a long time. When I was in Sendai, Japan last June I had the chance to visit an official Sega arcade (forget the name) along with a few others. Totally different experiance, arcade is still alive and well there.

I could personally care less if they have the newer machines. I'm more worried about them having their older machines up and running. We have plenty of newer arcades in the area. But last I was there [almost a decade ago] they were definitely on the ball with getting all the hot new releases immediately.
When we go, I will compile a list of their cabnets and post up a bunch of photos, impressions, etc.
If anyone from chicago wants to join up that isnt going to the Midwest Gaming classic, we're going on march 29th.

Very cool man! This is one thing that saddens me if the the fact the arcades are nearly extinct since every one has home consoles, etc. My nearly fainted the other day while out of town I see a Tilt Arcade and instantly brought back so many memories and was happy to see some thing survive from my childhood.
