Okay, so I only recently got a 360, forgive me for being ignorant on this matter. I've got my 360 hooked to my HDTV over HDMI.
In the display settings of the 360, concerning HDMI reference levels. There's "standard" "intermediate" and "expanded". Okay, I know what these are supposed to do, but none of them look correctly on my HDTV. My HDTV is properly calibrated, so let's not get into that, (yes I know about AVS HD 709). Here's the deal, with "standard" the blacks are too bright, "intermediate" doesn't do squat and still looks too bright, with "expanded" the blacks are crushed. So what's the deal here? Is this just the way it is and that's that?
I've got the color space set to "RGB" because I read that's best for HDMI. Don't know if that's right or not.
None of my other devices have this "too bright" or "crushed blacks" problem with the HDTV, only the 360 does this madness.
What settings do you guys use for your 360?
Any advice is appreciated.
One last thing, a dude in this forum said this is all due to a bug:

No idea if that's true.

Sweet Taft Jackson... I'm glad my eyes aren't good enough to get that deep into stuff. Seriously. More power to you if yours are, but wow... that's a whole new layer.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

Yeah I'm that guy. I went so far as to put a suite of reference images on a USB stick and stuck it into the 360, so that I could examine them using its image viewer app. Using these reference images I was able to get my HDTV calibrated extremely well to the 360's output. Luckily my HDTV allows individual profiles to be saved per device, because the 360's output variances are offset from other devices attached to the HDTV.
I feel sorry for anyone else who has this level of OCD.
