Light Gun Help

Post by SpaceBooger »

I was discussing this in another thread (which CRT TV is best for lightgun games) since I have determined that I can play light gun games on both of my flat screen CRT TVs (Duck Hunt and PS1 games). So it's not a flat screen TV issue. Before I buy a Sega Stunner, I want to see if anyone has any ideas why my Nyko Cobra, which is made to work on both a Saturn and PS1, works on the PS1 but not the Saturn.

This is not an image of my gun, it's cleaner, but this
is the gun I am having issues with.

So here is what I have noticed thus far:
1. The gun is not dead. The gun works with the PS1 on both flat screen CRTs.
2. The TV works with light guns. The gun works with the PS1 on both flat screen CRTs as does the NES zapper.
3. Only the Start button works when the gun is plugged into a Saturn, but nothing else. It doesn't even register trigger pulls.
4. If there is a controller plugged into the 2nd port with the gun; not only does the start work but the LEDs light up and the trigger will work.
5. When the trigger is working the shots only register as "off screen reloading" shots no matter where the gun is pointing.
6. Upon opening the light gun everything inside is perfectly clean and all connections are being made to the best of my knowledge.
7. The contacts in both the Saturn port and gun has been cleaned and look clear of corrosion.

I guess I am trying to figure out if the gun just wont work with the Saturn, many reviews on the net say it works well, or if its another issue that can be fixed.

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas of what I should do in an attempt to make this light gun work with my Saturn.

The Saturn and PS1 light gun games must be different because the guns and games work on my TV for PS1 but not Saturn.

That is interesting news. I wonder if it might be different light gun techniques between the two platforms that is the cause of this problem. Thanks for the info.
