Do you read ebooks?

Post by Opa Opa »

Besides textbooks, my book consumption has almost moved entirely to digital print. Not dealing with storage is probably the biggest benefit as my shelves are already full. Granted, some physical books are either unavailable digitally or half the price of a digital copy; I do pick up the odd paperback because of these reasons. However, I do prefer reading on an e-ink display.

Do you guys read on ereaders? Or are you still clinging to your paper copies? This is a retro site...maybe some of you are still hanging on to the stone tablets.

I have a 3rd generation Kindle that I use for books in kindle, mobi, or epub, and a Win8 tablet for pdfs. Before my job sucked, I read alot. But now I go through about a thousand emails a day so I have stopped reading fiction. My wife and I have a couple thousand books throughout the house that we are currently downsizing, but it is a slow process. However Project Gutenberg is my friend.

Nothing can replicate hold a hardback, but being able to carry a library in my pocket is pretty awesome. A reliable color eink reader that can handle strip comics and plate drawing books would make me giddy.

I've been digital for a while, we didn't really get rid of our hard copies though. I don't have much else to put on the bookshelves. I have yet to jump on a nice e-ink, though the Voyage looks like an interesting piece of hardware. I went Nook color, Kindle Fire, Nook HD, and now Kindle Fire HDX (got the 64GB version when they had the fire, Fire sale). It isn't too bad with the brightness all the way down, and has a beautiful screen, along with enough storage for a lifetime of books.

I've been thinking of subbing their book service (similar to netflix model), but there have been mixed reviews about the quality of the offerings.

In all actuality, I could probably do with downsizing our library. We are pretty much out of space on two large 6' bookshelves. My girl even has a Kindle that doesn't really get much use, perhaps I should confiscate that...

eink is just easier on my eyes after a long day of looking and LCDs. That and I can read it in the sun with no issues.

My daughter has a plain kindle with e-ink and the battery life alone is a compelling argument for it, not to mention the above mentioned perks. I do about 90% reading with my tablet, so I was really on the fence. The sale price on the HDX was just too good to pass on, so I went with it. I will definitely be looking for something that can work for the beach or the park though. I do a lot of reading at night, so a lighting option is a necessity for me. I've yet to try out the 4G capabilities, the subscription model seems a bit pricey.

This. All of this. I cannot read anything longer than a multi-page article on a computer LCD screen. If I try to do the kind of fiction reading I like, it makes my eyes hurt. E-ink fixes this.

I kinda want one of those large-format E-ink readers so that I can store RPG books in PDF format on them. Then I can search for info when I need it and not carry around a ton of books.
