Any Christmas albums not destroyed by retail?

Post by J T »

I have a love/hate relationship with Christmas music. I like to listen to a little bit to get in the Christmas spirit, but I often hate the music, and I especially hate it if it reminds me of when I worked in a grocery store years ago and had this shit pumped in my ears hour after hour with the same old songs. I have a hard time shopping this time of year without headphones because the playlists haven't really changed in decades. December also means that it will take me another 5 months to get Feliz Navidad out of my head.

So, here are a few albums I actually enjoy because I don't hear them all the time in the stores. What are some that you like?

Sufjan Stevens: Silver & Gold

Squirrel Nut Zippers: Christmas Caravan

Brian Setzer Orchestra: Dig that Crazy Christmas

If you like Sufjan's vibe, check out The Oh Hellos Family Christmas album. It's by far my favorite Christmas album of the past 10 years. It's name your price at the link below:

This looks like an even worse idea than the thing the guy from Sodom did

There's one obvious pick for me.

(I'm also partial to the HP Lovecraft Historical Society's "A Very Scary Solstice.")

I still like the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas album. I normally don't like Christmas music, but I like the techno-symphonic sound and the arrangements. I know that's kinda cheesy, but sometimes I'm weak.

I love Feliz Navidad, reminds me of Christmas at Grandma's.

Also, went for Pizza Hut yesterday and they were playing some Christmas themed soul music that was even cheesier than the pizza.
