I got a bootlegged DVD (which is a copy of an original). Any way when I played it in my 360 (which is connected via component) first the warning screen had a grey background. When the DVD started to play it had so many compression artifacts it looked like a web video from the year 2000. It also played in 4:3. I figured it was a bad copy.
I decided it to play it on my ps3 which connects through HDMI. The warning screen background now was BLACK. It played in 16:9. You hardly notice the artifcats. actually, viewing it from about 7-10 feet away its looks on par with DVD quality.
Any one knows whats going on here? I am confused because I watched HD-DVD on my 360 and it looks beautiful.

Check the settings for DVD playback?
Re: Bad Xbox 360 DVD picture
Is it actually in DVD format, or is it a DVD rip? I've had people bring me a "DVD" before that wound up being an MP4 or something burned to the disc.
Also, the 360 got the reputation as an incredibly poor DVD player back when it came out. I don't know if it was fixed in the past years or not. I've only wound up using mine for DVD playback a couple times.
