Actually, I'd say that person is pretty on point if it all comes down to increased year-over-year revenues. Nintendo has a lot of killer IP that others only ever imitate but never duplicate. To roll certain franchises (Animal Crossing was a good example, Pokemon would be another) under the micro-transaction model on tablets/smartphones may very well increase their brand recognition/money in the bank/whatever. WE are not the target market for microtransacting, but WE are also (as stated in the article) the minority group.

Thank goodness it comes down to more than mere revenue.

Yeah, let's see Nintendo stuff on tablets where they can be made terrible. If we're the minority that's fine; I wanna be the minority, I don't need your authority.

So many of the most famous and lucrative game franchises are sitting out the tablet and smartphone game explosion completely – Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Pokemon, etc.

Nintendo’s brand power becomes a little less valuable and relevant to younger consumers. Franchises like Castlevania and Metroid are already unknown to the new generation.

TIL Nintendo owns the Castlevania IP.

article tl;dr = "I'm pissed because I can't play top tier Nintendo games on my iPhone at the same prices that I pay for app of the day potboiler!"

Everytime i log on the Google Play store and see New + Updated games listing, i just cringe at how boring and manufactured those games look and probably are.

Id hate to see Nintendo releasing a new game for stupid tablets every week or month.

Oh man...Nintendo isn't using Microtransactions? They really need to take a look at how microtransactions work for modern games like Assassin's Creed: Unity! Seriously, Nintendo is fucking disgusting with how they treat their customers by not offering powerups for small nominal fees purchasable on their smart phone or tablet! They need to wake up to the reality of what is really going on in the world market by mass marketing their power franchises like F-Zero and Mother in new and spectacular ways. I don't see them ever getting out of this ass-blasting tailspin of sheer moronic stupidity! Seriously Nintendo Wake the fuck up and treat your consumers better!

.....oh wait....this isn't the Wii-U thread.

Now I won't argue that the vast majority of Google Play app games are total shit. I mean, like 95% of them are, without question. But there are some real diamonds in the rough. It's not all turds. I've thought about starting a thread about really good Droid games I've found on the Google Play store a few times. You can take $50 and buy at least a dozen great Droid games if you know what to look for. The problem is that the Google Play storefront's browser system sucks ass. I think it deliberately sucks ass for deep searching so that you're forced to be exposed to the maximum amount of crap possible while trying to find the good stuff.

It's just another in a line of (depending on your opinion) ignorant (or not) rant about how Nintendo is a pile of morons for not shlepping all their goodies to the open mobile tablet market to make bank off of it. Nintendo has refused doing this because it would water down their properties, would never work well as touch only either, and because it was decimate their hardware division undercutting the sales of their own hardware.

Sure the 3DS is down this year a bit in sales in the home country, but they also have the New3DS being a reality there sooner than here, and they learned of it awhile back so the gamers who would be interested in such a device will hold off buying the outgoing hardware as any rational type tends to do.

Nintendo just can't go tablet, it'll kill the company hardcore crippling their hardware division, especially on the dawn of the New 3DS. With the WiiU sucking so hard and let's face it, it will never recover and do as the Wii did in sales, they need the New 3DS to knock it out of the park.

I agree with the main point because I hate exclusives. All games should be available on every platform possible. Like movies, same way we don't buy a Cinemabox One for the latest Universal Studios hit or a MovieStation 4 for that Sony Pictures flick you really wanted to see.

I would love to play Pokémon on the iPad and I will not be buying a dedicated handheld gaming device for that. Which is unfortunate, but I can go without.

That's just what it is.

I won't claim to know what's best for Nintendo though. I would just like things that way for my own sake.

The only issue with that, is that it means games have to be watered down to the lowest common denominator insofar as hardware is concerned. You end up with games that aren't developed to eke out the absolute most power of their proprietary hardware. You end up with games that don't take advantage of exclusive hardware features like motion control or 3D or dual screens. Ultimately in a system like you're describing you'd end up with every console and smartphone being the same architecturally, just to allow such software homogenization. What then becomes the differentiators between the systems available? Brand loyalty? Exclusives are ultimately what defines a platform, for better or worse. Enough exclusives and you start to give the console its own "flavor". For example, the Dreamcast has a very different flavor than say the GameCube. I'm a fan of diversity so I'm okay with exclusives.
