Custom molded NES game cases

TCP member Shadowfox, who has previously created custom cases that fit GB/GBC/GBA/Lynx carts perfectly (modeled after DS cases) has just received back proofs for his eagerly-awaited (by me at least) NES cases.

He's not yet taking pre-orders, but I imagine it won't be long before he sets up for them, and it sounds like pre-order price will be cheaper than official price so take that for what it's worth.

I'm aware not everyone's a shelf queen like me, but I for one have fallen in love with having these cases for my games. Universal Game Cases are nice, but having the custom case is even better. It was one area where Sega always beat the Big N in my opinion and now that advantage has been nullified.

That's awesome! Modifying Universal Game Cases for NES carts is tiresome at best. Now if someone will start making replacement longbox cases...

He has said he intends to, eventually. His next step after these cases is replacement Genesis cases -- he was originally torn between making NES and Genny cases first, NES won the poll. But he's said as long as he can recoup his money on the molds, he intends to make basically every case custom (seriously... the list is a mile long)

He's making them in the order he expects to make money -- the Gameboy cases first, then NES, then Genesis... he's said once the first mold is paid off (or really close), he'll move on to the next one, and that once he has molds for them the cases themselves are easy to make and he'll be keeping them in stock.

So yeah, BECAUSE I'm not only excited about the NES cases but also very excited for the prospect of Saturn/Sega CD longboxes as well eventually, I'm doing everything I can to make sure his money gets made and he can move on to the next mold

This makes me wish I had less NES games so I could afford cases for all of them. Those look really slick.

You're tellin me, man (on the money front).

I got somewhere around 180-190 NES games, so gonna buy 200 at first... at $1.25 a pop I think he's estimating for 100+ orders, that's $250 + shipping.

And then all the printing. I think this is finally gonna make me break down and buy my own color laser printer, the startup cost will be heavy but in the end it'll be cheaper than outsourcing it to a local print shop, and a major job like this (plus the ~75 or so other cases I've been sitting on without covers) will help to get back towards even.

If you're doing a couple hundred prints, the cost of the printer is definitely justified. I'm fortunate enough to know someone who is willing to do the prints for me for basically nothing. If I didn't have that, i'd definitely own a nice printer that I can swear at constantly when it breaks down for seemingly no reason.

The price is really attractive, and I wouldn't be surprised if I end up with them someday - A few pieces at a time so I don't realize how much i'm actually spending, ha.

I hope he does a GG case soonish. I've got a couple GG games and I've modded a couple DS games for them but it's a really terrible solution that doesn't really keep them together.

I'd also like to see a DVD-sized Turbografx case. Right now I'm using the manual clips and it doesn't work well.

Much smaller potential market than NES/Genesis/Game Boy cases, that's for sure. As far as I'm aware, the next one is confirmed to being the Genny case but we'll see. I do know he's discussed GG case sizes, etc with the guys at TCP (which is obviously the target demographic, since they're the ones who'll be creating the art to put on them)

As to the Turbo ones... I dunno. That's another system whose cards HAD a legit case for them, and that legit case was CD-sized, not DVD.

Seymour Onion has been talking forever about making TG16 reproduction... either cases, or at least trays so that you could buy your own jewel cases and just replace the tray with ones to hold. But so far all he's come up with is the sleeves -- https://www.seymoronion.com/Custom_Game_Cases/

However, in (far less than) the time Seymour Onion has been talking about making cases, Shadowfox has produced the GB/GBC/GBA/Lynx (Lynx was just a bonus, wasn't intended) cases and now has proofs in hand for the NES cases... so I'm beginning to think the Onion cases may be vaporware.

Also, I've said it before, if anyone wants to see the quality of his stuff, I've got some extras of his Game Boy cases and am willing to send them out, juuust because I'm (obviously) very interested in making his products succeed so he keeps making more.

Yeah, but the majority of the Turbo art on TCP is DVD sized. So I hope down the road we might see some custom cases for those in the DVD size.
