[SOLVED]Can anybody back up my VMU's to PC?

Post by noiseredux »

So I have a bunch of VMU's, though I haven't had a Dreamcast hooked up in a good six months. I'm wondering if there's a way that somebody could dump all my VMU's onto a USB stick or CDR or something for me. I have some saves (PSO, etc) that I'd hate to lose over time and would like to know is preserved. I also have a 30 hr save of Grandia II that I'd be more likely to finish up if I could just fire up an emu instead of hooking up my DC right now.

BBA transfer (or spare memory cards) aside, I think the only other ways to preserve DC saves is uploading to a site (if possible), or using a Nexus 4MB Memory Card with PC link cable. The latter might be your cheapest, easiest option, IMO.

I think there's an easier way to do this if anybody happens to have one of those Dreamcast SD card readers. I think you can use a file browser to move VMU saves over to the SD card.

Though the uploading to site thing is interesting... ?

I do have one of the SD card readers, but I haven't messed with it in a while and don't remember if there was a transfer thing. Arcade expo this weekend, but if you remind me later I can try to check.

I had one of my DCs modded with an internal SD reader... and then promptly abandoned it when I got a GDEmu

I'll take a look during my time off, see if I can figure out how to do something like that.

You can get a Dreamcast Memory card that hooks up to your PC for Hard Drive, CDR or USB stick backup. Just copy the memory from a standard DC card over to the memory card that has the Parallel connection cable. This is tricky on newer PCs without the older printer port, I have not bothered using mine (Massive Memory Card version) for years. Perhaps fixed with a USB adapter?

right. I'm aware that these kinds of things exist, but was hoping somebody already had something like this setup that could transfer for me instead of me buying the memory card, and trying to figure out a way to make it work without a parallel port.

hey guys I managed to back them up myself. Used a free dialup number to get online and then went to http://vmu.sega-dc.de/vmu/vmu.php and used the VMU uploader tool. 8)

Doh, I kept forgetting about this when I would have had time to check the SD reader.
