Raiden has a crap-ton of ports, and MAME now emulates Raiden II.
Fantasy Zone I liked when we brought it up in deliberations, because again it has tons of ports and would be a good shmup to get even those who don't play shmups into.
Truxton was done as our first game on the SOTM, but it's still pretty notable.
River Raid is one of the best on the 2600. I really should have brought up SOLARIS cantbelieveIforgotthatdammit

I love the Raiden series, but haven't spent a great deal of time with the 1st one.
Just straight-up face punching difficulty, without feeling cheap or gimmicky.

All of these seem like great options. I voted Raiden as I enjoyed one of the games in the Arcade
