hi RB members , i just installed Win 7 on my other PC and AVG is saying its a trial my main PC has AVG as well and its free.
anyone know whats going on ?
AVG saying its a trial ?
Re: AVG saying its a trial ?
Are you sure you installed the free version of AVG? If you installed the paid version by mistake, you get a 30 day free trial. Do yourself a favour and ditch AVG anyway. If you still would like to use a free product, try Panda Free Antivirus 2015. As of right now, it's probably the best free choice.
Re: AVG saying its a trial ?
Yeah, I used to be a fan of AVG free but over time have become much less enthused, especially now that it makes a point to repeatedly advertise the paid version. I have been interested in trying something else and will check out panda. Thanks, irixith.

hi guys , i think ive fixed the problem........i clicked the download on the main site but i should of gone to downloads and gone through the packages to get to the free ver.
no trial message yet , also i used to use Panda the paid version and it didnt seem too good as it didnt pickup on nasties that AVG did so yeah i switched over.

Another popular free option is Bitdefender if you're looking for choice. AVG and Avast are both really heavy on system resources (obviously less of a problem if you're running some sort of enthusiast system), and light on protection considering what hogs they are.
As far as paid antivirus goes, it used to be easy to recommend NOD32...but I just don't know any more. Norton used to be awful but now it's better, and Kapersky/Bitdefender/F-Secure still hold their own, and there are new cool kids on the block like SecureAnywhere. There's no particular reason to go for a paid tool, considering the quality of what's available for free and a little bit of common sense.

I used to use AVG, but it started disappointing me.
The final straw was when it quarantined my Diablo II exe, thinking that it was a virus.
I pretty much lost confidence after that.

...just another lost soul...

Blizzard games are addicting viruses. It was correct to do that.

I stopped using AVG (I use to install it on other people's computers) when I'd run Malwarebytes and find tons of things that AVG missed. It makes you ask, "What are you even doing, AVG?"

I ditched AVG once it started to feel really bloaty to me. For I while I was content w/ MSE, but decided to give Avast a try and I've felt good about it for a couple months now. It doesn't feel like it's hogging, but is it and I don't realize? I've actually never heard of Panda, but my reason for using Avast was that I felt like it was pretty lightweight which was good for a gaming build.
