My Latest Addiction: Mario Kart DS

Post by racketboy »

I was skeptical that the game would be worthy of all the scores that essentially made it the top DS game.
But after playing it for a while and unlocking a number of courses, I can honestly say its amazing.
My wife and I have a great time doing VS and I have been trying to get first place on the single-player Grand Prix to unlock all the cool tracks.
I would put it up there with F-Zero GX as my favorite racing game.

Anybody else have the game?

Don't have it but I've been wanting it for a while. I love every iteration of Mario Kart (save maybe Double Dash) so I expected it to be good but a recommendation from you kicks it to the top of my DS list. Does it have single cart features by any chance??

You mean single-cart wireless multiplayer? If so, yes.
The only downside is that you're limited to the standard tracks, not the ones you unlocked.
Which is a bummer because the unlockable ones are awesome :)

I kind of liked it but I really think Nintendo is stretching the franchise a bit. Mario Kart DS is basically MK64 with a few tweaks, like MK Advance was basically just the SNES game with some improvements. It's still fun, not to mention the portability factor and the online multiplayer, but because it's so similar to all the Mario Karts before it I don't find it so engaging. Played a couple of times before trading it for something better.

I was planning on getting this to play with my wife tomorrow. She is new to her DS and loves multiplayer more than anything. I love other Mario Karts. Have you tried the online? I was wondering if it suffered at all, like crossing the line first but losing from lag or whatever. We may have to battle, racket. :)

I used to play this all the time, and I loved it. Going online is great, from what I experienced it doesn't really lag too much, if at all. Most likely it depends on your signal strength and the other people signal strengths.

Awesome game and loads of tracks to unlock and loads of missions to complete as well. Highly recommended even if, as you say NebachadnezzaR it is basically the same game on a new platform.

I love this game instantly when I got it (I still loved it even when my left palm was aching from continuous snaking). I always use ROB with the Regular DB, since I can hit the other characters out easily (one great example was me against my friend on Rainbow Road- I hit him off the track after the 2nd loop, he dropped from 1st to 8th because of that. Also, it was the last lap).

I went to an all-nighter gathering, and about 6 people brought Nintendo DS's. We had a BLAST playing multiplayer Mario Kart DS. In fact, I'm looking to trade my copy of Zelda Phantom Hourglass for this game with someone locally (if I can find them.)
