Bomberman '93 and '94 on the Turbo/PC Engine are a couple of my faves. Hit the Ice is pretty fun, too, if you don't mind it isn't a very great hockey simulation. Super Dodge Ball is also a blast.

I would add Tecmos Bowl (NES), NBA Jam (SNES), Street Fighter II: Turbo Hyper Fighting Edition (SNES), Super Bomberman (NES) since I actually prefer them to their sequels.

You should also add Baseball Simulator 1.000 (NES), Base Wars (NES), Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball (NES), HAL Hole-In-One Golf (SNES), Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES), RBI Baseball (NES), Rock 'n Roll Racing (SNES), Samurai Shodown (GEN), and Weaponlord (SNES). You might also want to add a game from EA's "FIFA", "Madden", and "NBA" franchises, but I do not which ones would be considered the best.

Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road (NES) - up to four players. So much fun.

Hey why not Balloon Fight? Very early among the Nintendo era stuff at home, but it can be a game for friends or enemies. There's no gimmies on that one, you can take down the other player as easily as the enemy.

I really enjoyed Goof Troop on the SNES. I know that it only supports 2 players at most, but it is one of the most entertaining co-op games that I have played on the system.
