Sega Saturn Swap Trick - I Need Some MAJOR Help With Modding

Post by RetroGamerNin »

Dear Modders/Sega Fans...
I'm trying to play burned games on my Saturn. In order to do this I have to open up the system and tape or rubber band a certain 'swtich' that tricks the Saturn into thinking the disc tray is closed so I can swap games. Here's my problem...there's no switch on my console! The inside of mine looks wrong, very wrong. I recently purchased it, but for what purpose would anyone want to remove that part? Am I going crazy? Is there anything I can do to do the swap trick without manipulating that gear/switch? Please help!

Here are pictures so you know exactly what I'm talking about.

You see? The switch should be right here. Right....HERE! Anyone who has softmodded a Saturn to do the swap trick with backups knows exactly what I am talking about.

If you need more pictures, just ask! I'll upload them right away. I really appreciate any help!

The switch you are looking for is on the Model 2 (and I think later Model 1's).

The sensor on your Saturn is actually located in the lid.

So I was going crazy :D I hadn't seen any pictures of the insides of Saturns (Whether Model 1 or 2) that looked like mine, so I just assumed there was something wrong with mine. Never assume! :) Could you please walk me through the process of what I need to tape down/rubber band on mine? I can't seem to find any walkthroughs online and I am very amateur at stuff like this.

I don't actually have that model however if you follow the wire from the main board to hte lid, then kind of goes around the cd tray, where that wire ends, the sensor is in there if I am not mistaken.

With the console open, just open and close the tray and see what it is pushing in that area.

Thank you very much for your help! I figured it out

FOR ANYONE UNSURE OF WHERE TO TAPE THEIR SEGA SATURN MODEL 1 FOR DISC SWAPPING:

Skip ahead to 2:10 in the video to find out where to apply tape

Here is the only video I was able to find on the matter. It's in Spanish, but he shows you exactly where you need to apply tape (I used duct tape personally even though he uses scotch tape). I still don't know why my type of model has virtually no information on the internet on how to softmod it (most Saturns have a switch/lever, unlike mine), but at least there's this one video! Hopefully I can save some other people time if they stumble across this. Thanks again, this thread is SOLVED.
