NTSC-U SNES games in Super Famicom?

Post by Nyukki »

I'm guessing the answer is yes, but just wanted to double check before I go crazy with the craft knife:

Will an NTSC-U SNES game work in a Super Famicom if I remove the board from the shell and stick it in an empty SFC cart?

If yes, will the US board even fit in the Japanese cart shell?

Cheers

Yes they're the same system inside. They just played games with the size of the shell and tabs to keep people from jumping the pond into other regions.

I used to have a few dozen SFC games I used on a SNES, same hardware both ways.

Awesome!

Anyone know by chance if a PAL Super Gameboy will work in a Super Famicom? Seeing as the Gameboy is region free, and it's essentially an actual Gameboy in a cartridge.

Yes and yes. But wouldn't it be easier to just get any kind of adapter so you can use the SNES carts directly?

Either that or widen the cart slot on the console so the wider cart shells will fit in. That's what I did. I have a PAL SNES that I hardwired to be NTSC and I wanted to be able to use my NTSC-U carts with it.

Easiest solution is to just grab a Game Genie or something if you don't want to have to widen the slot or take apart cartridges.

Of course then you'd have to hack up the Game Genie to fit...

It doesn't work. I've tried with my Super Game Boy and Super Famicom before out of curiosity.

There are third party adapters just to get you beyond the system, just like the honeybee for the NES. A basic passthrough part would remove having to chop tabs out of a system or carving slots in the backs of carts.

Does the SNES Game Genie have thicker connectors like the NES version? It might ruin the console connector.

The NES connector has issues because of the stupid slide in a tilt design. The Saturn has issues with the too thick Gameshark because the pins are so small. The SNES is a good robust connector. When I had a Genie temporarily it didn't feel any different in the slot.

Like Hobie said, the NES Game Genie was only made like that because of the way the front-loader NES works.

The SNES one won't hurt your console any.
