Greetings!
When my wife's PC crashed - there was an SD card in there. There are about 1,500 pictures on this card. Pictures before the crash and after the crash work. There are 71 pictures in the middle that won't upload.
They are there when we scroll through, but will not load to any website or photoshop.
I've suggested reformatting the card but Amy says bad idea. Google suggested trying to load them up one at a time - didn't work, same error messages.
tldr; the pics are there, but somehow corrupted. Any ideas how to pull thes 71 finicky pics?

have you tried copying them one at a time directly to the HD using Explorer (instead of some photo software)?
If that's a no go, then you need to probably start looking at recovery software.

^Seconded. Copy from SD card to hard drive, then go from there.
If they won't copy over, the SD may be corrupted. If they will, good. Try uploading them to wherever you want from the hard drive.
If that still doesn't work, try opening one picture, saving it as a different filename or type, then uploading the new one.
If that fixes the problem, you can use IrfanView to do a batch process to save all the pictures to new files at once, speeding up the process—let me know if you need help with that.
If that doesn't fix the problem, then I'm not sure.

Ok, that seems to be working - saving to external HDD, then saving to photoshop.
Odd - but glad it's working! (so far...)

Yeah, sometimes files can just get wonky for some reason; I've had that same scenario happen myself with pictures before.

Got 'em all - thanks! You wouldn't believe it, but of the 40,000 pictures she's taken in the past 5 years, these are apparently the most important.

Burn the pics annually to a CDR or DVDR, less volatile then the hard drive or memory card. Decades later unlike the forgotten old PC, the discs are a great archive that your grand kids can rediscover the pics and videos. To ease the disc archive process, every year make a new folder in the PC such as /JPG 2015 and /MPG 2015.

Or even better look into cloud storage. If something were to happen to your whole house, all the photos are backed up somewhere else completely. My house nearly burnt down earlier this year thanks to a huge out of control bush fire (that unfortunately claimed 50 other homes) but I at least knew my photos were safe in a server somewhere else.CRTGAMER wrote:Burn the pics annually to a CDR or DVDR, less volatile then the hard drive or memory card. Personally I use Google Drive. It costs me only $2.50 a month for 100gb of storage space!

Go both just in case that Cloud Storage cannot be accessed decades later by relatives due to a forgotten password. I used to burn annual backups of the discs as "Christmas Cards" to my relatives. Have not done that for a few years though it is another archive option.BRIK wrote:Or even better look into cloud storage.
