Play Xbox, Dreamcast and PS3 Slim then try again!
On a serious note new fan or good cleaning to the fan shouldn't be to hard and might fix it.

I'm using LAN, ilink & internal HDD, so the first gen fat ps2 is the only option. and They're not broken or anything they just make a lot of noise. If I take out the fan, they will melt down. I've tried it. hahaha.

Hook up the TV to your stereo.
Compared to a PC, never really noticed the fan noise as being that loud. Now the original fat 360 ................
Maybe a bearing going bad? As mentioned, cleaning the dust buildup should help. You could also lubricate the fan motor bearing with just a couple drops of 3in1 oil. I did this on cooling fans for removable hard drives, really made them silent. Peel back the sticker, just enough oil for the bearing and not the armature.

Re: Recommend me a silent ps2 fan/solution
Thanks for all the tips. The PS2 is not louder than many other consoles, but it is still loud. and I'm one of those people who cannot stand noises that could be prevented somehow. I figured there would be many people that had already modded their systems to be more silent. For now I'll just keep them in a huge plastic box, so that the noise does not reach my ears, but so the systems still have enough room to breathe. That is a tip for anyone like me. I have them running in a plastic container with a detachable lid with domensions approx. 30CMx40cmx60cm. I also have my laptop in there and on occasion a gamecube.
Silence is bliss!

There is the reason why it's loud. Plunging in the Network adapter or HDD will cause the fan to sound louder.
Try searching for a 50001 model. It was the last Fat PS2 version and has a much quieter fan. The only problem is they removed the iLink on that model.

As long as the lid is a little open to let fresh cool air in to be cycled back out. If it's actually sealed up, you're just continuously recycling the same ever warming air. Eventually you'll end up with a problem if that's the case.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
