how do I rip GCN and Wii games to SD?
I'm interested in checking out Dolphin. I am not interested in downloading ISOs. So how do I rip my own personal Gamecube and Wii games to an SD card using a softmodded Wii? And how big of an SD card do I need?
Sub question: does the mouse emulate the wiimote in Dolphin?

not sure how to rip games to your sd but I know for a fact the largest size SD card you can use on the Wii is 32 GB, your much better off using a USB hard drive.noiseredux wrote:I'm interested in checking out Dolphin. USB Loader GX has the ability to rip games to a harddrive. That is how I ripped my 70 games. I have a 500gig drive that I need to reformat so I can put on my Gamecube games too - when I did it you had to format the drive in the silly WBFS file system, and now it supports NTFS.

From what I understand with USB Loader GX, the wii games get ripped to a USB hard drive, and the Gamecube games go to the SD card. At least, that's how mine was set up when I got GX working.

I am also interested in this.
I hear that the Wii is very picky about what HDD is used as well... or at the very least the newer portable drives are less compatible.
Also, I understand that powered drives (with their own power supply) are more reliable than the small ones powered directly through USB.
Until I find a suitable Drive, I won't even be in a position to even try.
--EDIT--
looking at this list:

---I might end up just get an enclosure for a laptop Sata drive and use that.
--EDIT#2--
Thinking about a WD Elements drive. I think it's a USB 3.0 model and usb powered, but a few similar (although not exact model) compatible usb 3.0 external HDDs are listed as working.

The mouse does not emulate the wiimote, but you can have a game controller do so and, if you have a wiimote already, it is REALLY easy to just connect that to your PC for use via blue tooth.noiseredux wrote:I'm interested in checking out Dolphin. Re: how do I rip GCN and Wii games to SD?
There's a way to rip the games using just a computer. There's a few models of a particular DVD drive (Panasonic IIRC) that have the ability to rip GCN and Wii discs using special software. You can find the compatible drive models and the software you need with a quick Google. I got one of those drives off eBay a few years back. It was new old stock, and only about $20 or so IIRC.
I'm not sure if those drives are as easy/cheap to get these days, or if this method would be easier than ripping them using a Wii, but I just thought I'd put the option out there.

Yeah i had thought of that too. If i could find a drive for $20ish it would be convenient.
Re: how do I rip GCN and Wii games to SD?
Just so you know, for whatever reason, it still takes longer to rip a disc with it than it normally would. For example, using ImgBurn I could read a DVD to an image in a couple of minutes. For some reason, it took like an hour to rip a single layer Wii game.
Of course, I only used it once or twice. Perhaps the software used to rip the discs has a new version that goes quicker? IDK, it's been a few years since I've used it.
