CRT keeps blowing internal fuse

Post by fastbilly1 »

So I decased a 27inch CRT so I could mount it in my Astro. Everything was going well: the tv came out fine, it decharged fine, it fit the Astro cage perfectly, and worked fine when out of the cab. Then when I mounted it into the cab whenever I touch the composite cable I wired up it blows the internal fuse (which means it has to come back out so I can replace it.

My first thought was degauss coil is not hooked up right, but it is. My next thought was maybe it needs an additional ground off the cage. I just havent figured out where on the PCB to solder in a new ground. Any thoughts?

It sounds like a ground issue to me as well, I dont have any suggestions though. Have you posted in the monitor section on the arcade controls forum? they are pretty quick to help with any questions I have ever posted.

That was the game plan today. However last night I replaced the fuse after running a new ground and it shot sparks. TV goes into trash tonight and I start my hunt for another.

A thrift store sounds like what you need...and I'm not kidding since that's where i found mine and all it needed was a good dusting before I felt safe to use it and it's good as new ;) I wouldn't be surprised if you found one of those sony trinitrons that I kept hearing about when i first joined

I have to have a round face monitor so most of the trinitrons I find do not work. I go to three different thriftstores/pawnshops and two Goodwills atleast twice a week. This aint my first rodeo.

I just did not want to have to buy a third monitor for this project, I am already an arcade monitor and TV into it.
